Hi Elena -- Regarding private loans not sure if you can 1) try local credit unions 2) take a cash advance at this late stage but it may be an option for one year. Meaning if you have a credit limit for 5-8K you could take a cash advance at a low interest rate. Obviously there is always a risk for ANY loan you take out. The top 3 private loans are Wells Fargo, Discover, and Sallie Mae. Typically with these, it is easier to get approved for a loan and to have a smaller interest rate if you have a co-signer such as your parents. However, it is not an absolute necessity. Many of these companies have ‘Health Professions' loans, but unfortunately getting an accelerated second degree nursing is still considered a bachelor of nursing or an undergraduate degree so you may not get this benefit (although I have heard that some people get it). Other Kinds of Loans There are other kinds of loans, such as peer-to-peer lending (P2P), but they typically don't allow for student loans (Prosper, the Lending Club) and often have a higher interest rate. Hey folks who have already been accepted AND registered question. Not sure what the hold up is for me but I haven't been registered for classes yet and I am getting kind of antsy.. I know they said the next few days (Up to the 21st) but am I going to be like the last person registered? I still waiting to finish up my health forms and I wonder if that's why I am not registered yet. Where has everyone been placed for clinicals? Anybody in the afternoon schedule? Congratulations to all who made it in again! And good luck to those who still have not heard YET!

Thank you for this @ eekxitsem - it helps alot actually as they said I won't be getting my schedule until late December but I know some schedules/placements are different. Who is your advisor btw? Onto the health forms!

I wasn't able to do the simulation part of the tour and I am wondering about it as well. I do know that: 1. The sims will be on one week and then clinical placement the following week on and off and according to the information should not be more than 8 people per instructor (is that correct)? 2. For new students the course registration takes place 2nd or 3rd week of december (not sure about transfer or current NYU students who I think have already registered and received clinical placement). 3. An overview of the entire program which classes and which semesters was distributed. 4. A Q&A by students who are currently in the program where they discussed the classes and expectations from professors.

If the main issue in terms of the Pace program with people who graduated was that some of the instructors were horrible its certainly a consideration. I know a couple of people out of PACE nursing (not the ABSN) who said the opposite so I guess its who you ask and of course with a class size of NYU's (433 in 2012, 395 in 2013) I am sure there are bound to be people who say the same about the nursing program at NYU. Who knows? If the NCLEX pass rate is an important indicator of the strength of the program then Pace beat NYU the last two years (91% vs 81% in 2014) Class size? Because of transfer and normal degree students the class has to be split into two groups of 130 each at NYU this Spring (2016). But probably the most important criteria is does job placement post-graduation = instructors wanting to see you do well and succeed = the NYU experience? Anecdotal evidence/real world input aside if I knew going to NYU vs. Pace would assure me a higher rate of job acquisition post graduation/greater chance at commanding the best salary -- then we probably wouldn't be having this conversation LOL But who knows? Here is what I do know Pace = 50K - 1 year vs. NYU = 100K - 1.5 years (approximations..) Pace NCLEX PASS = RN NYU NCLEX PASS = RN Pace 1st job as an RN = How much $? how long did it take to gain employment? NYU 1st job as an RN = How much $? how long did it take to gain employment? etc.. If we only knew!

smashnyc - thanks for putting yourself out there! I just attended the NYU information session this evening. Its a beautiful facility but I didn't get to do the tour. I'm torn between Pace University and NYU to start in the Spring. As an NYU graduate did you feel like you had a particular advantage when it came to employment post-NCLEX? What field of study did you choose? The main issue for me is finances.. My goal is nursing practice so that means advanced studies and the ABSN is already going to cost me dearly so I am weighing out the pros and cons. I really appreciate your input or anyone else who may be in a similar situation.

It is my opinion that neither the fastest route nor the cheapest route is necessarily the best route. From what I have observed on a personal level (whether my own friends who are nurses, or np) here on the forum or other nursing career websites, besides having your BSN/RN, your work experience is one of the most important aspects of your employ-ability. Which route is going to offer you the most real-life experience and translate into your goal of RN in the future? If you have an opportunity as a paramedic to work in certain clinical areas that you wouldn't be able to as an LPN then it makes more sense to do that. And vice versa. So looking at financially which route makes the most sense? Cost of the program vs. salary? Also you want to consider your end game or final goal. If you are having an issue (vanity as you've said) with regards to others expectations/opinions now what happens when you are an actual RN? If that is the case maybe you may actually want to consider doing the LPN more as a "trial by fire" and see if you have what it takes to deal with the stereotypes etc.. What do you think?

Thank you! I think that means the Spring Semester.. I'm not sure if I am going to be able to afford NYU.. I mean I guess that's what loans are for but DAYUM!!! Anyhoo congrats to you all.

Did you accept already? Does anyone when the actual classes begin?

I believe it was something like $22,800 per semester (4 semesters) and I don't think that includes room and board (I could be wrong though..)

Reading about everybody and I just wanted to congratulate all of you. Does anyone know about the curriculum/start times etc..?
