STCC 2010?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello Everyone: I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone on here has any advice on being accepted into the STCC Nursing Program. I will be applying to the program for the fall of 2010. I am taking the pre-reqs now, but have a question regarding the HESI. Does the exam cover chemistry and physics in addition to A&P, Bio, Math, and English? I have the exam book and have been studying but wanted to make sure I study the correct subjects. Any advice would be great! Thank you.

I got my acceptance package today. The CORI and SORI needs to be submitted within 10 days along with the $50 admission fee. However it doesnt say anything about when to submit the health services form or by which date all the vaccine requirements need to be done. Or am i missing it?

Congratulations to everybody who made it!!!! Hope to meet you all soon!!!!!!

Its so good to see you here! I though it might be you but I wasn't sure. I am really happy that I took Dr. Carey, I deffinetly think it helped.

Question to the nursing students from last year: What is the Freshman Nursing Seminar NURS 104. One of the schedules offers it for only 7 wks, and then the other one is without any set time for full semester? I am just trying to look ahead and see what my schedule will look like. Thank you.

It's for a full semester.

Bananimal and or Kat,

Do you happen to know which nursing homes we will be doing our clinicals in? Also, I was wondering when we get to go into the hospital for clinicals.

Thanks again for your help...

First semester you will be in some sort of nursing home, there are a TON of different facilities.. Heritage Hall, the soldiers home.. Starting second semester you will be in the hospitals.

To answer some of your questions............

The freshman nursing seminar actually lasts ALL first semester. It said 7 weeks on our schedule too, but we were there the entire time.

I can give you an idea about cost but not exact.. I think tuition and all those fees came just under 3,000. Books cost a little over $1000. Don't buy from the book store if you can avoid it (obviously if you have financial aid you will need to). I got a barnes & noble membership to save some money, and i looked up prices on both barnes & noble and amazon so I got them wherever they were cheapest. There is a lab kit you will need to buy that is around $160.. Uniforms, shirts/pants are in the $26 range each.. the lab coat costs a little bit more. I think the name tag was around $10. You will need white shoes, a stethoscope, watch, pen light (at the very minimum), which all add up in cost.. plus school supplies.

Before you get your books you guys may have the option of not getting the hard copy if they are going to be giving you that particular book loaded onto your smartphone.. so check into that cuz that could save you some money.

The health stuff just has to be in before you begin classes.

They will release you to register for classes after your orientation (in June, most likely). Do it as quick as you can if you have a preference for lab. Most students want the lab on thursday or friday so they don't have to come in on wednesdays. But think about whether or not you want to go to lab thursday morning right before you have exams.. because most people would probably want to be able to study during that time.

Hope this helps!

Banimal,

I have a new lab coat I got for Micro and a set of burgundy scrubs (never worn and bought at Life Uniforms) that I bought hoping to get into STCC. Do you think they would let me wear these? I think the lab coats the students wear have STCC Nuring embroidered on them. Couldn't I just get that? I work now as a PCT and I have two pairs of shoes made for me with orthopedic in them. Do you think they would let me wear these?

No, we don't wear burgandy scrubs.. We have blue bottoms and white tops. You will need those. And your lab coat must say STCC Nursing in blue. You can wear whatever shoes you want as long as they are ALL white.. no other colors, not even black or silver/grey.

Congratulations to all of the new STCC nursing students. I, like Kat, am wrapping up my time at STCC within the next few weeks. Nursing school has been the best hardest thing that I have ever done in my life. Get ready to work harder than you have ever worked in your life! Friends will think you hate them, husbands/wives will feel neglected and everybody has to sacrifice. the ultimate reward though is greater than anything you've done before.

My advice is for you to enjoy your summer! Soon enough your world will exist only of STCC school of nursing and NCLEX to name a few.

I would say that you can buy your scrub pants anywhere as long as they are Cherokee work wear in royal blue. The bookstore sells them for $20/pair but you can get them at any other scrub place (i.e. WorkNGear) for about $10/pair. The only thing you have to buy at the bookstore is scrub tops and the lab coat and name tag as obviously they have to say STCC Nursing. I purchased my Littman Classic II SE stethoscope at Allheart.com. Did not get engraving but got a plastic name tag to write my name on it. I strongly suggest white sneakers as they tend to have more support for your feet.

If you have anything further to ask, don't hesitate. GOOD LUCK!

I would like to add to the post above about the scrub bottoms. I am 5'2" and the pants they sell at the bookstore are HORRIBLE. I have to pull them up like a second bra and they are STILL too long. And pretty much everyone had this problem no matter how short or tall you were. I ended up buying the same color from the Grey's Anatomy brand.. as they have petite sizes.. Best, most comfortable scrub pants EVER... but not if you're trying to save money.. lol.

Thank you for posting this!! I am 4'11" so I will need petite for sure! Do we wear scrubs everyday or just to clinical? Where do I get the grey's anatomy brand? Oh , just one other question. On the clinical schedule it says 8-12 and 7-12. Is this pretty accurate or is it different times?

Thanks for all the great insight!!!

As a general rule, you only need wear scrubs to clinical. There will be a handful of times where "clinical dress" (scrubs) will be required for on campus activities but faculty will be sure to let you know. You will need to wear your lab coat for each and every lab. As far as "Grey's Anatomy" brand, they are significantly pricier than Cherokee workwear but Cherokee also comes in petite sizes as well and are a fraction of the expense.

If memory serves, those clinical times are pretty accurate. Clinical is Monday and Tuesday either morning or evening.

Great thanks so much!!!!
