STCC 2011 Hopefuls?
It depends, I know there was some talk about changing the curriculum so I hesitate to guide you on the books, but if it is the same as last year then you wont need the maternity until second semester. I also hate the study guides they make you buy. I know for 104 you will need it for assignments but again that's if it doesn't change from when I started in september. The part that makes it expensive is the extra books, at least for me. Nursing exams are unlike any other exam you will ever take. They are all application and require critical thinking skills. the only way to brush up on critical thinking skills is to do many many NCLEX questions. Some people can get by with out buying extra books but I was not one of those people.

Don't stress, if you are savvy you can find things cheaper. You wont need money at orientation unless you want to order t shirts or a fleece from the seniors. That's how it was last year for us. They will give you a book list it is expensive so prepare yourself. Good thing is you don't need it until september :-)

STCC 2011 Hopefuls?
Hi everyone, Yes clinical starts first semester, long term care. Which is great for learning. The costs are crazy!! You have to buy the tops and lab coat from the bookstore but the pants are royal blue cherokee worknwear, so as long as the color matches you should be fine. I have the grey's anatomy ones, very comfy as the ones in the bookstore do not come in petite. The books are insane, so yourself a favor and shop around. I spent about $3500 on my books uniforms, shoes, stethoscope etc...I bought mostly new because I prefer new books, but it is very expensive. If I can make a suggestion, there are two "suggested" titles that I think are worth spending the extra $ on and they are Clinical Calculations Made Easy (dimensional analysis) and Fundamental Success. See you on May 19th!

I'm not too sure about the numbers on the wait list vs getting in, they don't really share too much of that with the students. I think age has a lot to do with it. I know a lot of us 30-40 somethings got accepted much faster than some of the younger ones did.

STCC 2011 Hopefuls?
Hi Everyone, Congratulations to all that have been accepted. I know you are all probably busting with questions so I will try and help if I can. I am an STCC nursing student. I remember being so excited last year this time and I remember how helpful it was to have the advice from an a student in the program. If I can make one suggestion it is to have patience. The faculty are very busy helping seniors prepare for graduation and the freshman still have 2 more exams ahead. The selection process is very frustrating and the reason some do not have letters is because they accept in stages. They have their A draft so to speak, B draft and then the wait list. Not everyone gets accepted at the same time and the criteria for selection is still unclear. I have my own thoughts about the process but it's just my thoughts. Some of my classmates didn't get off the wait list until a few days before class in September.

Hi Jess, I would probably get the one from school and keep it as a spare just in case something happens to yours. Then you wont be mad if something happens to your phone KWIM?

STCC 2010?
Thanks ladies! This info is very helpful!! I have a ton of questions!!! I had a question regarding watches. I do not own a casual watch and I saw in the book store they had them merchandised in the window with uniforms. Is there anything special to shop for ? I am trying to spread the uniform and necessity purchases out over the summer if possible. I also went to work n wear and they said the royal blue is changing? The Grey's anatomy bottoms were nice and soft but cut for juniors not misses and I found them a bit uncomfortable. The style they showed me there wasCherokee 4101P as I will need petite but even those were long with a slit up the leg?? I am on the fence about the stethescope. Can anyone recommend a good spot to shop for the Littman? I like the ultrascope's funkyness but after much thought I think I would rather something more professional looking?? OH one other question....If the clinical schedule says 8-12 or 7-12 is it really 8-12/7-12? or is it different. I was able to register for my classes before they froze registration for the NURS classes. So I am wondering if this is getting revised? Ok one more question and then I will stop :-) What is the deal with the phone? I heard that we get smartphones, or iphones? Who pays the service and what are the details behind the phone......Thanks!! N

Thank you for posting this!! I am 4'11" so I will need petite for sure! Do we wear scrubs everyday or just to clinical? Where do I get the grey's anatomy brand? Oh , just one other question. On the clinical schedule it says 8-12 and 7-12. Is this pretty accurate or is it different times? Thanks for all the great insight!!!
