STCC 2010?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello Everyone: I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone on here has any advice on being accepted into the STCC Nursing Program. I will be applying to the program for the fall of 2010. I am taking the pre-reqs now, but have a question regarding the HESI. Does the exam cover chemistry and physics in addition to A&P, Bio, Math, and English? I have the exam book and have been studying but wanted to make sure I study the correct subjects. Any advice would be great! Thank you.

I got my acceptance package today. The CORI and SORI needs to be submitted within 10 days along with the $50 admission fee. However it doesnt say anything about when to submit the health services form or by which date all the vaccine requirements need to be done. Or am i missing it?

Congratulations to everybody who made it!!!! Hope to meet you all soon!!!!!!

I didn't see anything either about that but hopefully the follow up letter will have more info. I think I had read somewhere on here that it has to be before the start of classes? Not positive about that. You could always call the Health Services Dept. and check in with them. I had a difficult time trying to track down immunization records. I know I was unable to find mine and needed to have Titers done for the shots. You should try and make your appt now for the physical (if you haven't had one recently)- some Dr's offices are booking into the summer for them.

congratulations everyone! does anyone know how registration for classes goes? in the letter it says to wait until orientation. i've heard rumors that for things like clinical we don't get to pick the time we want?

I tried to register in the web advisor just for the heck of it but it wont let me. There is a registration hold for nursing students until the CORI and SORI check is done. Dont know about the clinicals yet and CONGRATS to you. I guess all the hard work in Dr. Carey and Prof. Stzrempkos class paid off huh? Good to see you here.

I got it!!! Yay!!!!!! I can't wait to get the next letter!! See you all soon!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!:yeah:

To answer some of your questions............

The freshman nursing seminar actually lasts ALL first semester. It said 7 weeks on our schedule too, but we were there the entire time.

I can give you an idea about cost but not exact.. I think tuition and all those fees came just under 3,000. Books cost a little over $1000. Don't buy from the book store if you can avoid it (obviously if you have financial aid you will need to). I got a barnes & noble membership to save some money, and i looked up prices on both barnes & noble and amazon so I got them wherever they were cheapest. There is a lab kit you will need to buy that is around $160.. Uniforms, shirts/pants are in the $26 range each.. the lab coat costs a little bit more. I think the name tag was around $10. You will need white shoes, a stethoscope, watch, pen light (at the very minimum), which all add up in cost.. plus school supplies.

Before you get your books you guys may have the option of not getting the hard copy if they are going to be giving you that particular book loaded onto your smartphone.. so check into that cuz that could save you some money.

The health stuff just has to be in before you begin classes.

They will release you to register for classes after your orientation (in June, most likely). Do it as quick as you can if you have a preference for lab. Most students want the lab on thursday or friday so they don't have to come in on wednesdays. But think about whether or not you want to go to lab thursday morning right before you have exams.. because most people would probably want to be able to study during that time.

Hope this helps!

Thank you...this is all very helpful! Also, where do you buy the above things mentioned such as stethoscope and other stuff...at the school store or can you buy them anywhere that sells them =)

This is all so exciting!! Lots of questions...thanks again for taking the time to help us all!

Thank you...this is all very helpful! This may be a silly question but what is a smartphone????

You can get your stethoscope anywhere you want, they even sell them in the bookstore (but personally, I dont like the ones they sell in the bookstore). I bought mine through http://www.reddingmedical.com/ ... I got the Littman Cardiology III, with an engraving of my name (which is a good idea so yours doesnt walk away..) and . There are plenty of good threads on allnurses about different stethoscopes, so find one that you think will work best for you and your budget. You will buy the scrubs, lab coat, lab kit, and name tag from the bookstore. Last year we did this during our orientation in June, they had all the different sizes for you to try on, then you placed an order for how many you want of each. I got my pen light from the bookstore too, but its already died on me.

Did they mention if your class would be getting the smart phones? Our class got a grant for smartphones (AT&T customers got iPhones, Verizon customers got Blackberry Storm, and everyone else got iPod Touches) and skyscape software. This is awesome.. because you have all of your resources right in your pocket. The software includes drug guides, skills guides, taber's dictionary, etc etc etc.. its amazing. I'm 99% sure you guys will be getting them too.. Its no cost to you, except you have to pay the extra $30 a month on your phone bill for web access and all that..

You're welcome.. I have no problem answering questions. We got a ton of information from the senior class on this board last year once we had been accepted... just paying it forward. Feel free to ask anything.
