STCC 2010?

Published

Hello Everyone: I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone on here has any advice on being accepted into the STCC Nursing Program. I will be applying to the program for the fall of 2010. I am taking the pre-reqs now, but have a question regarding the HESI. Does the exam cover chemistry and physics in addition to A&P, Bio, Math, and English? I have the exam book and have been studying but wanted to make sure I study the correct subjects. Any advice would be great! Thank you.

I had checked mine on webadvisor when I got in and either got my letter that day or the next....good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Have my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!:)

I just checked my profile on Webadvisor and it said the same thing. Nursing with a completion date of 2012...hmmmm. I'm not sure what to think because I hadn't looked at my profile prior to today, after I read all the comments. I don't want to get my hopes up but I hope this means we got in! Keeping my fingers crossed too! :uhoh3:

Anticipation is a killer!!!! lol

Where did you look on your WebAdvisor? Did you look Academic Profile after you get into WebAdvisor then click on My Profile? Is this the correct place? Are you looking where it says Major?

Thanks.

Yes. Under academic profile click on "My profile" then look at "Academic Program". My "Major" field is empty and it has always been empty.

Has anyone been successful in getting a hard copy or even a verbal description of the criteria and formula used by STCC to evaluate their applicants for admission?

I have been attempting to find this out for over 2 years and have not been successful. I have not been overly impressed with the Admissions Department. Their level of understanding and clarity about the process (it is a different story depending on who you speak with at the office) is questionable. In addition, I have had multiple issues with them when they processed my transcripts. At other schools, they are upfront and tell you the criteria and weightings for each (e.g. GPA, HESI/standard test scores, work experience, etc.). When I contacted the Nursing Department directly. they provided no information and referred me back to Admissions. It seems neither department feels they have ownership of answering this question.

Based on my experience they either: 1) Have no set criteria and formula to evaluate all candidates equally resulting in students being selected subjectively; or 2) The criteria and formula is not published and shared to prevent any appeals from being filed after the admission decisions have been made (essentially allowing them to select students subjectively regardless of achievement in pre-reqs or potential to be successful in their program).

Has anyone been successful in obtaining this information or have any insight on this subject?

Thanks.

Hi Jess!! It's Nichole, my profile changed as well. I called the STCC Web adviser help desk and they seem to think that it is a good sign?? Any day we should hear!!!

Anyone have any ideas on how to pay for school and $24, 000 worth of day care expenses???

Hey Nichole! I didn't know you were on here. I hope that the profile change is a good sign...I can't wait to hear. I did get into AIC but it's going to be expensive! About paying for day care...good question.

Alphadog, when I was trying to get information about the program i was just as frustrated as you were since nobody from the nursing department or the admissions office would give me any specifics. All I was told was to attend a "Nursing Info Session" where everything will be explained. However the info session that I attended was actually very informative and answered all my questions. They did not give us the exact formula of how they select students but these are the specifics that I got from asking questions:

1) Selection is based on only and only on a students academic excellence.

2) Academic excellence = GPA + HESI SCORE

3) Work experience and recommendations are overlooked but not discouraged. It will only come into play if they have to decide more than one eligible candidate with similar GPA and HESI score. For example: there are 100 seats and 90 of them has filled up and for the next 10 seats there are 20 very good candiates with similar GPA and hesi score. Then only the work experience and recommendation will be looked at.

Now like I said I do not know the exact formula. They must have a certain point system for specific GPA and HESI score but that was all the information I got from them. Being said that I also heard different versions from other students that attended the info sessions. Therefore I cannot be certain if the info I got was true or not. May be others can share.

I just learnt if you log into WEB ADVISOR and click on "Prospective Student" and look into "admission status" you can see if you are in or not. I am in!!! Good Luck to everybody!!
