I am in OR and on a whim I applied to a hosptial in ND that had over 60 openings. I was a new grad with no experience. I applied to 2 spots for what would be my dream jobs, the NICU and the ED. I got 2 calls back wanting to do over the phone interviews.

I never followed through, because due to family situations I am unable to move, but after months of getting rejections it was nice to get a call that someone was interested in me. That was a year ago, but I hear that they are still in need, due to the finding of oil up there, every industry is hirring

HUH???

If Wisconsin has needs then why have I been looking for work since MAY?? NOT. The hospitals in Wisconsin don't want to pay for help is more like it.

Live in Wisconsin and there are SEVERAL job openings where I live (not in the middle of nowhere) we hire new grads at times too.

The rural towns of California that I am aware of want 1 year of experience elsewhere and then yes there are jobs but then with a year of experience you might not have to go rural. Someday they will need all us nurses and more. We are just the unfortunates that are going to get the "sign on" bonuses or the job of our choice. Just bad timing....

If anyone does get a job there you may want to work it in your deal for a place to live. The flood from this past year has any type of rental, including rooms hard to come by as well as the oil boom-hole in the walls rent for $$$.

THIS WEEK, I applied to two ads "Wanted: CVICU RN *EXPERIENCED ONLY* I did 12 years in CVICU - REJECTED by both.

There is a housing boom market race in Minot. Some news like MSNBC or somebody did a whole deal about Minot just recently. You pay absolutely crazy amounts for a home there, because there aren't enough homes or apartments. Yes they do need nurses, but you are quickly in trouble making ends meet due to living expenses, that is, if you can find somewhere to live. It's a huge problem. The winters are bad, so you can't sleep in your car LOL waiting to find somewhere to live, or commute from the middle of BFE to BFE.

I have nearly 6 years of experience and have applied at multiple facilities in the less desirable cities of CA such as Bakersfield, Taft, Visalia, Fresno, Delano, etc. I've gotten a couple of rejection letters, one rejection email, and no responses from the other applications.

that sucks communter! i was even thinking of bakersfield and the alike areas but gosh dang i figured there were at least jobs for the experienced! (apparently not...)

since i may not graduate with my RN (pending acceptances) in 2-3 years...i am hoping that the economy finally turns around

ya right....they said that last year and the year before that and the year before that!

Wow that is crazy. The market is so oversaturated hospitals can pretty much just take their pick. I still think the OP would have better chances with critical access, especially in the south. (Alabama, Mississippi, Texas)

Mississippi is absolutely glutted with nurses. Way too many nursing schools here cranking out new grads here whilst very few get hired. In my small town we have 5 programs graduating RN's twice a year as well as one state University graduating RN's yearly.

I'm speaking exclusively of critical access hospitals. I know Ms is full of nurses, but the hospitals in the delta region really need help. I saw in the paper that they are offering sign on bonuses for a one year commitment.

What is the 'delta region' in terms of city names, out of curiosity?

What is your definition of critical access hospitals?

thank you, in advance.
