Starting WGU RN-BSN

Tentatively accepted to the RN-BSN through 's online program. Lalalalala yay for me! Nervous as hell about going back to school....but its gotta be done!

Anyone have any experience with WGU? Negative or positive?

There was some kind of a problem with my application, and they have just dropped the ball with me. Someone else that has been posting about this was offered a seat recently. In my case, I don't think anything will be happening for me because the website now talks about the 'five year' rule for science courses. That was nowhere in sight when they took my application fee a year ago. I would imagine that is the reason why they just pushed my applicatiion and transcripts aside. It would have been polite and professional though to have sent me a letter stating why they were no longer considering me as a student. Their next cohort starts in September. If you get your paperwork submitted now, there is no reason why you couldn't be starting clinicals then. Good luck.

Sorry, the September cohort will be starting in southern CA. I have no idea when the program will be starting cohorts of students in TX.

I will be taking the the pre nursing curriculum soon but just because it says it is highly competetive to enter the nursing program it's self,.I am a little scared.How long did it take the other person to start the nursing program after haven taken the pre-nursing curriculum?

I start the RN-BSN program April 1st. I graduated with my RN April 2010 and now work in a HCA hospital. Luckily I get 10% off tuition for being a HCA employee. I hope to complete my BSN in the 1st 6 months **fingers crosses**. My co worker stated his wife completed her is 2 months and he is hoping for 4 months. I on the there side have 3 young children, I am the primary bread winner and I have a husband who is in school. I really hope this works out well. They are SO vague in describing anything, you almost have to wait to start to find anything out. I also will be receiving grant money so I hope not to use tuition reimbursement and have to commit 2 years to my hospital. Good luck to all and I would LOVE to hear from others who have done or are currently in the RN-BSN program!! Also any tips would be welcome

hey was thinking about Would mind enlightning me on how a nursing class breaks down? how many papers projects etc thanks so much bobby

The classes aren't any different from brick and mortar but they're intense, you're going to actually learn the content or you won't pass. I was really surprised at how much information they expected me to digest. You're going to write a LOT of papers but they guide you through it and you have a lot of help from your mentor. I'm now in Graduate school at Loyola and it's a cakewalk compared to , but I was prepared and that's what's important. I'm also a better nurse because of WGU.

I did this program in 10 months and I can tell those expecting to do it in less, forget it, you won't be able to do it. I almost didn't make it and it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, even though I finished with a 3.8 GPA. I had already been an RN for 18 years and 10 months was brutal for this program, no way will you finish it sooner. My brick and mortar colleagues were taking statistics and couldn't help me with mine, couldn't help me with my biochemistry or my nursing classes. WGU puts together a complete and applicable didactic, not theory and fluff. I can also say that my graduate class mates are still struggling with APA style and paper research a year into the program, I have a 4.0 and have never received less than an A on a paper, thank you WGU!

If you're not a nurse already, then expect the full 3-4 years but you can also expect to be the best nurse on the market. As an alumni, I'm always available to those thinking of attending or already attending. I can't say enough good things about WGU and I want to support those who are ready to feel the same. :nurse:

I am just a little curious and confused. How did you receive a 3.8 when the RN-BSN is pass/fail ? Thanks :)

I am wondering the same thing! I was told by a University in my state they won't accept graduates into their FNP program because there is no GPA. Please elaborate.
