....on what a new AN member can do. For instance, you must be a member for 6 months before you're able to post a question. The homework issue is really getting out of hand!
Students don't even beat around the the bush or try to camouflage what they're doing. They just flat-out demand homework answers. Somewhere, it must be written that AN.com is the place to get your homework done.
Completely agree. Nobody is forcing anyone to read anything. If you see something is repetitive or you have a feeling it's a homework question, then just skip over it :)I feel as if this is a great source to get outside opinions and to ask for some assistance from others who know because they've been around it. Does this mean "do someone else's homework"? No, but you can offer pointers to people who are asking for help.
Getting upset about what others are posting on an open forum site is a little silly. Limiting new users to a 6 month "probationary period" won't help because in 6 months, they're just going to post the same things anyways.
We're all friends here and we aren't always going to like/care about what others are saying, but move on and read something more to your interests.
Who said anyone was upset? I just posted something that was on my mind. Last I knew, that was part of the fun of an online forum. However, no matter what is posted there will be critics who want to spoil the fun.
So carry on, but "feel free to move on and read something more to your interests."
Not quite critical enough. The students don't ask in the Student Forum. They don't want students' answers. They ask in the main forum and get moved by the mods.
Also, not as easy to overlook as implied. I've remarked before that it is very cumbersome to find 29 of 30 thread titles on a page to be about the same general subject, in this case "student", when I am looking for nursing content. When I brought up that years ago when the break room was introduced that it had been mentioned that a separate student's site was in the works, it was stated that the idea was abandoned. Not everyone comes to this site to read about student topics.
I can see how homework help stuff gets out of hand. As for the multiple posts about basic nursing school junk, well....remember your nursing school days when school was pretty much all consuming? That's every student on here AND they have the benefit of the digital age where something as cool as a nursing site exists! Why go to a book when ya got google and an allnurses.com post pops up as one of the first three hits to your question?
I just find it odd that anyone would actually go through the effort of creating a name just to post a homework question. I am leaning towards agreement that some of these teachers must be telling them to try a nursing board as an assignment.

There was no Google when I was in nursing school.

As a matter of fact, a current post states this. He/she claims that the nursing instructor advised an online plea for nurses' responses.
Why not just close the threads in which the student is not showing the work they've done before asking the question?
I asked for, and received, help understanding the cardiac cycle a while back. Not only were my questions answered, I was given very helpful links that solidified the topic for me.
It would be a shame to be blocked from asking questions when you're actively trying to learn.
Maybe I should patrol the student forums more often to relieve some of the burden from the more experienced posters.
