my nursing classes begin in Jan 2010 and i want to know what semester nursing students begin wearing scrubs?
thanks
We wear a royal blue lab coat to pick up our patient assignment (over NICE clothes), and with our scrubs. We have been called "smurfs" by hospital staff. Usually the students just call ourselves 'bluecoats".
Royal Blue would be better LOL ours literally are the smurf color HAHA. The LTC facility we did clincials at was separated by scrub colors, the cleaning crew wore burgundy, the nurses royal blue tops and white bottoms and the CNA's the same colors as ours so a lot of people confused us all the time.

It's supposed to be royal, but looks closer to smurf : ).
Technically, you can wear scrubs anytime you want--it's a free country. Otherwise they would not be selling scrubs at WalMart
Seriously though...the school will tell you when it's time for you to wear scrubs or uniforms to class/clinicals, and exactly what the scrubs/uniform should be. And believe me, NS is very strict on what you can and can't wear and when. So heed what they say.
AFAIK, we wear street clothes to class, and scrubs with lab coats, complete with all our silly patches, to our clinicals which begin about 5 or 6 weeks into our first semester. P.S. our scrubs are all white, including shoes and lab jacket. And the patches make me feel like a girl scout or something, lol. Oh, and I start Jan 2010 too! Good luck!

The two schools im my area- now and when I attended 25yrs ago, students NEVER wear scrubs. The students are stuck in thier polyester uniforms like scarlet letters until they graduate.
