In my ADN program, the first semester was fundamentals and nursing skills. We didn't do clinicals, therefore we didn't use scrubs. That came in second semester, with Med Surg I clinicals.

In my program we wore them first semester. In First Semester at my School we took Fundamentals which had clinicals at a long term care facility, pharm and dosage and calculations.
We also had to wear scrubs for all med labs (which was pretty much the last few weeks of school almost every day) and all simulation days and skill check off days. You should be told at orientation or before hand if you get a packet what your school will require.

it depends on how your college is set up. some colleges require pre-nursing courses before applying to the program while other colleges require you to be accepted into the program to begin taking ANY nursing courses (even the fundamentals classes!) my school required 3 pre-nursing classes where we had 3 lecture classes and 1 had a lab with it where we learned our skills. after taking those classes and passing with a C or better we apply to the program. once accepted we begin clinicals where we wear scrubs. typically whenever you begin clinical rotations you will be required to wear scrubs!

Also, some schools make you wear scrubs while in class in order to enforce a professional uniform, while other programs want you to only wear your scrubs in the clinical setting and nowhere else. Either way, they should tell you when you need to wear them.

it all depends in my program we start wearing our scrubs in the first semester. So it depends when you start clinicals.

We started clinicals in the sixth week of our first semester, so we had to wear scrubs to the hospital then. We also had to either wear our lab coats or scrubs to skills lab, so a lot of us starting wearing our scrubs the first week! The rooms were very warm and the lab coats were too restrictive, so I wore scrubs to lab most of the time.

In my program we started clinicals by week 6
In my program we also wear our scrubs for patient research. In first semester our clinicals started I think it was 3-4 weeks into the semester, but we had to wear scrubs a few times before then.
None of us ever wore them if we didn't have to though, we look like smurfs in them, they are Celie sp? blue top and bottoms with white socks and white shoes. You really stand out.
The day my group had our cultural presentations we had picked incarceration. To go all out and be creative for our project we all bought the standard orange county scrubs, we spray painted our school letters and class number on them in black. We looked like standard inmates. Seriously I think at school kids thought we were on work release or something. It was the only time we stood our more then in our normal scrubs!

[/sizewe wore scrubs the first semester. the school normally has a set "uniform", it isn't a scrub set that you can choose.
we only wore them to clinical, we got in trouble for wearing them outside of the hospital.

we had to wear our uniforms in the first semester i felt like i was a nurse!!! :redbeathe. now i wear that dreaded uniform twice a week . hopefully next semester (15 weeks) will the last semester i will have to wear that uniform
We wear a royal blue lab coat to pick up our patient assignment (over NICE clothes), and with our scrubs. We have been called "smurfs" by hospital staff. Usually the students just call ourselves 'bluecoats".
