StaRN residency programs in Florid

U.S.A. Florida

I have been applying to several of the HCA StaRN programs in Florida and was contacted by 2 different recruiters, one for the west florida hospitals and the other for Ocala Regional Medical Center. I was so excited after waiting so long, but now I'm wondering if this is something that I will be able to do since I will have to move from MD and will be living on my own. The Ocala Regional recruiter's email said that the first 13 weeks are classroom and training and you will only be paid 15$/hr. After that you will get hired for a position in the hospital and receive the regular RN pay which is in the 20-25 $ / range. I was very surprised to hear this and am worried that I won't be able to afford to rent an apartment at 15$/hr. The other recruiter didn't mention this lower pay, but requires a recorded webcam interview which guess is a screening an first part of the interview process. I have to get back to them rather quickly, so if anyone has any information on either of these I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

oh okay. No thank you :)

@ wayemika, which hospital? Shands or North Florida?

north florida. why so? are you thinking of applying?

Probably not. I went to UF's nursing school and had some clinicals there. I was more of a fan of the food and free parking. The specialty I would like to be at is also not offered there.

what specialty are you looking for? yeah we are still limited in some ways. its not a bad place to start off though

Does anyone know of any StaRN Residency programs in south florida, in broward or miami area?

I haven't seen any currently, but here's a list of all the HCA hospitals in FL. There are quite a few in Broward and in Miami. Find a Florida Hospital | HCA Florida Hospitals

@ wayemika, I love pediatrics. I've attempted Shands but with no luck, so I think my time in Gainesville is over-which is okay. 5 years is long enough :)

I can understand that. Once I get my experience Im going back to a larger city myself. Gainesville is a ok place but i like being closer to the city.

I know it has been some time but did any of you get accepted to the StaRN? Any word of advice for a future applicant?

I'm applying for the staRN program for the 2016. My concern is that there are no benefits-what does everyone do for health insurance in the interim?
