St. Paul's School of Nursing - Fall 2010 Acceptance

Published

I'm curious if anybody got their acceptance letter yet?

I just recently took my entrance test - it was easy. They changed the test style. After the first test comes the HESI which I know would be more challenging. The name of the entrance test is not DET anymore. It stinks considering on the application packet it says that the test would be DET and even recommended to buy the book guide - I bought it unfortunately. Anyway, anybody applied to other nursing school aside from st.paul's?

Arg anyone waiting for their acceptance letter? What's your GPA? Are you in the morning or evening program?

Hi JC2372!!

Ok first let me start by saying TAKE YOUR TIME!!! I rushed through the exam b/c the proctor told us not to spend too long on each question. You have 4 hrs, I finished in 90 minutes and scored above 90 in each section. So DONT rush. Ok on to the actual test. Everything is pretty much exactly what is in the Hesi study guide. You have a calculator you can use on the computer so that speeds things up a bit. There are not a lot of word problems, I would say approximately 10. Memorize the roman numerals, military time and liquid measurements there are a few questions pertaining to them on there. The math is exactly the same as the guide but obviously some questions are a little more difficult than the study examples. The vocab is exactly what is in the study guide aside from maybe 5 words. For example hypertension was one of the words that was not in our book. They will use some of the words in sentences. The reading section was the most difficult to me, prob b/c I was rushing and did not want to keep going back to read the passages agaon and again. They will give you 3 or 4 passages and you have approx 6 questions per passage. Then the grammar, they will give you sentences and you have to pick the word that is or is not grammatically correct or fill in the blanks. I dont remember them asking anything about identifying nouns, verbs or adjectives etc. Also you cannot go back after answering a question only forward. The sections are broken up by the 4 categories, math, grammar, vocab and reading. If I remember correctly you can pick the order you want to do the sections in.

Sorry post is so long wanted to really explain it the way I would have liked it explained. Hope this helps. Good Luck and relax if you do good on the practice problems in the book you will do good on the test. Let me know if you have any other questions!:):)

the books they will let you know during orientation.. and the they should be mailing you information about where to buy the uniform, that should be bought b4 the semester begins...the store is antoinettes..they'll send u all the info about that. Med supplies- the only things we needed for the 1st sem was a stethescope & a blood pressure cuff.. and the bp cuff isn't mandatory, it's just something if you wanted to get on your own if u wanted to.

didn't know you were in the evening program, it's much different from the day program..and ur clinical site is going to be at rumc. also, i hear the evening program professors are great! so thats good :) only thing is classes are til late (4-11pm)

i wish you the very best of luck!! anything else let me know :)

Thanks sooo much. You have been so helpful!! BTW how do you like clinicals?? I will definitely let you know if I have any other questions. Thanks again!!:):)

Melisi Thanks for all of your tips about the test I am really nervous you are going to the night program correct? I wanted to go to the night program at first but I have 3 school age children and I need to be around when they get home?? Do you know about transfer credits?? I have all my prereq except for a&p and micro but they are just about 5 years old I hope they except them really dont want to take psy and eng again LOL...

Yes I picked the night program. I would prefer the day program too but I have two little ones who are home with me during the day. I'm not too sure about transfer credits they haven't told me whether or not they are accepting mine yet. I also have everything but micro and a&p, hopefully they take them to lighten our courseload. I will keep you updated if I hear anything. Keep me posted about your test.:):)

Hi everyone,

To those who are attending St. Paul's School of Nursing right now, what is the passing grade for each class? And would you know the pass rate for the NCLEX exam? And I have all of my pre reqs plus more classes done, and I was wondering if they were transferrable. I'm interested in St. Paul's and was just doing research. Thanks! :)

Their pass rate on the NCLEX for the Queens location is 91.5% and the pass rate for Staten Island is 84.6%. For some reason the NYS website hasn't changed the name of the program yet.

Thank you! Would you by any chance know the passing grade for each class? And if classes are transferable? Thanks!! :)

Classes are definitely transferable. From what I was told, all my credits got transferred. I've taken a medical dosage course from my previous college; They will let me take a challenge course this July (If I remember it right.)

Soo, how's everybody doing? Did anyone else get accepted?

Anyone in the night program?

The passing grade for all nursing courses and nutritional therapy course is 80% (B), the passing grade for all general education courses is 70% ©. Anything below that is recorded as an F on transcript.

This is from the 2010 St Paul's catalog.

I was told only grades B and above will be accepted for transfer and they must be completed within the previous 60 months.

Hope this helps!

where did you get this information? i thought C or better is transferable. can u pls tell me where can i get a college catalog?

ty

I was told this by the school, they reviewed my transcript and said they only accept courses which are a B or above. They make you sign a form that lists all of the classes you need to graduate and which ones you already have. I took 4 of the required classes but they only accepted 3 of them. One was more than 60 months go.

I received the catalog from the school when I applied, it was the Spring 2010 catalog.

Also this is from the St. Paul's in Staten Island. There may be diff. guidelines for the Queens school.
