St. Paul's School of Nursing - Fall 2010 Acceptance

Published

I'm curious if anybody got their acceptance letter yet?

I just recently took my entrance test - it was easy. They changed the test style. After the first test comes the HESI which I know would be more challenging. The name of the entrance test is not DET anymore. It stinks considering on the application packet it says that the test would be DET and even recommended to buy the book guide - I bought it unfortunately. Anyway, anybody applied to other nursing school aside from st.paul's?

Arg anyone waiting for their acceptance letter? What's your GPA? Are you in the morning or evening program?

I have to agree with you. I already got my acceptance letter and I'm starting to have second thoughts about this school. Thing is, this is the only school that I applied to. If there are schools out there that are still accepting application, I would definitely not choose St. Paul. The person that I spoke to on the phone is starting to irritate me. I would send a complaint to the director on why would they hire such person - very unhelpful, unapproachable, and so full of himself. I called last week to inquire about the program for the fall since I still have no idea about the schedule, the curriculum, and the financial aid, or what hospital are we attending, etc. He wouldn't give me straight answers. It's like he's making me sound stupid. I called for a second time and asked him if all my credits were transferred and got a "I don't know answer." I also asked him a couple of questions about scholarships, he didn't let me finish my sentence and said "I don't know about scholarships." Seriously. Give yourself a favor and just quit your job.:mad::mad::mad: It's not like it's a university. It's one floor for pete's sake! No wonder it's not NLN accredited. I bet, they couldn't even pass the "customer satisfaction" - if such exist. :yawn:

Vent done.

I agree, When I was inquiring about the school the individual I spoke with seemed fine until my trasncript kept on magically getting misplaced...what was worse the day I went in to talk to someone, they had a problem finding my transcrip and my application only to later find it... a few people I was waiting with were in the same boat with misplaced information...It seems very unorganized...

@rutgersgrad10

My advice is to go directly to the school and fill out an application on the spot. Bring all the necessary files - state ID, processing fee, and essay. I'm sure they're going to let you do the wonderlic exam - a 12 min IQ test. Their phone don't answer 98% of the time - it goes directly to the voicemail which is if you leave a msg, it's going to take a month to get a response.:confused:

@Kem215

Big congrats on your interview from Beth. I heard that if you get an interview, that's like a guaranteed acceptance (don't quote me though, but that's what I heard) :clown:

@wewe12

I found the HESI easier than I thought it would be. My only advice for math is to study conversions (mostly liquids like lbs, cups, tbs) Grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary is going to be easy if your first language is English so don't sweat it. Vocab words consist of basic medical terminology. Good luck! I did very good even though I didn't buy the book. Just relax and you can do it! :redbeathe

@Searching13

I know a few people who mentioned that this school lost their transcripts as well. I don't see how they could lost such very important files. It's a one-floor school and obviously not a lot of applicants since they're still accepting application considering the deadline was mar1. Did they accidentally dispose those very important personal files. :uhoh3:

I'm not trying to discouraged anyone from attending the school. Who knows, they might actually be helpful during the school days. I just hope all the staff are approachable/helpful this fall. ;)

Class of 2012:nurse: Congrats to all those who got accepted. GOOD LUCK to all that's waiting to hear from St. Paul's.

Compared the NLN the HESI wasn't bad. The math was pretty simple and they give you a calculator which helps speed things up. Definitely know your conversions (ie. pints to quarts to ounces) and your roman numerals. I was surprised to see those on there. The one thing to keep in mind is that you can't go back. Once you submit an answer that's it. Some of the folks were complaining about that. Most test taking places/books tell you to skip questions you don't know and go back to them so you can manage your time better. Unfortunately that doesn't work with this test. Also, I don't know how you test but you might want to sit somewhere facing the clock or wear a watch. There was no clock/countdown on my laptop. Even the small clock you usually have in the bottom corner of the screen wasn't there. Some folks were complaining that they couldn't keep track of how much time they had left for each section.

I know St. Pauls wants the deposit check back within 2 weeks of the date on the letter ... but my letter (aside from 4 obvious errors) wasn't dated! :rolleyes:

The date is on the envelope's top right corner. I found it odd that they didn't put a date on the letter. :confused:

I wouldn't go as far as to say the school isn't getting many applicants just because they are still accepting applications, maybe just not enough applicants that meet their criteria.

ok quite a few people got accepted now. How long ago did most of you apply?

Wait, do you mean the post mark? That's odd bc that's the only date on the envelope and of course, it's just my luck, the ink is smeared! I guess to be on the safe side I'll give them a call and double check.

Yes. That's the only date that's on the package so I guess that's what they're referring when they said "date of this letter." I was able to contact the director of admission through email, and was surprised when she called me on my cell. I was in the theater and I had to rushed outside to talk to her. I could say that she's way helpful than the guy that I spoke to before. She mentioned all the credits that were transferred from my other school. less than 4months left till we start nursing classes. I hope to meet every one of you guys. :redpinkhe

Btw. I changed my username. :D

well i got a letter saying i wasnt accepted. i really dont understand why i didnt. I scored all 90s on the hesi on the first attempt and my gpa was a 2.9. The only negative thing i could think is i had a few unofficial withdraws on my transcript(withdraws after the official date). they just show up at "UW" not F or WF. should i call them? i mean im curious to find out why i didnt get in....maybe i could correct the problem and reapply.

Very sorry to hear that! :mad:

I took my HESI as well and scored in the 90th percentile but am in the same boat with you with a low overall GPA. I still havent been called back for my formal interview yet so I am still keeping my hopes up

I am so sorry to hear that you didn't get in. I would definitely call them and ask. Don't lose hope! You did really really good on your HESI! Did you finish all your prerequisites? What are your science GPA if you don't mind me asking? Did you apply in the day or night program? Because, I believe day program is extremely hard to get into.

Thats kind of what I am hoping on, my GPA might be low but thats just from the years of me slacking around before I decided to go into nursing. All my prereqs for nusing are C and above. I have an A in AP I and B,B+ in AP II and Microbio. I am hoping they will see that my past is just my past and that Im determined and my recent grades reflect that.

LOL Im gonna recite something like that during my interview hehe
