St Joseph's College of Maine FNP program students

Published

I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.

Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.

Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)

For example...

1. How many books are required for NU 501?

2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?

3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?

4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?

Thanks so much!

I will be starting NU 501 Nursing informatics in March. Do the course have exams and quizes or is it all paperwork?

Are you currently taking Nursing Informatics? And if you are do the course have exams and quizes or is it all paperwork?

Bsnwnab, are you meaning like a compact state?? I think you have to have a license in that state even if it's a compact but I could be wrong

no not compact state. what if i have an NM license and would like to do the preceptorship in nevada or california, is that possible?

dear debs17

there no exams or quizes. 5 units - mostly writing papers , discussion posts , and one final project ( can be paper or power point presentation and some other options)

APA format for all papers required , as well as for discussion posts..

you will be required to buy 3 books.. I also bought APA software on line called PERLA , which helps to format your references in text and within the paper.. you also have to be familiar with exel, word and powerpoint to some degree..

Good luck .

thanks you so much norik95.

The papers that have to be written is there a certain amount?

Can you tell me a lil more about the disscussion post?

Sorry for all the questions a little nervous.

Just finished informatics, the instructor was the best...overall am really pleased with Saint Josephs, thank my lucky stars to be accepted...appreciate all the posts here, especially for preceptors and clinicals...as far as I know, St. Josephs is approved here in Florida, unless anyone knows differently....Leadership is next starting march 31st.....onward....;)

St. Joseph's has "provisional" accreditation by AACN pending the first graduating class. It can hold this status for up to 3 yrs. I checked the AACN website, and was told about the provisional status when enrolling last March. After 2 classes, I got cold feet re: the program and switched to another university with longer standing/full accreditation. I'm sure it will work out, but not sure enough to ease my nerves. Besides the lag time in feedback, most of my other experiences were favorable.

Anyone know if they had their 1st graduating class yet?

Hi Debs 17 ,

the papers are 5 total including final project ( which can be diff from paper) I did power point presentation. All papers related to reading and research you do via online or you acne use ST Jose data base , I got a lot of articles from data base.

discussion post: teacher will post a question re reading that you will need to do , then you have to post a reply to one or 2 classmates.

I also have books that I will be selling .. I am not sure if you have any interest.. norik95

I am 95% sure that you need to have a license where you are doing clinicals. You are required to have , which covers your "RN" license and your student status as an NP. If you are practicing as a student NP in another state, your RN license is not protected. Your best bet is to obtain licensure in the states that you would like to do clinicals. I don't think it's at all like in RN school when you had no license that you were practicing under.
