St Joseph's College of Maine FNP program students

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.

Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.

Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)

For example...

1. How many books are required for NU 501?

2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?

3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?

4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?

Thanks so much!

click on the persons site name (like debs17), this takes you to their profile where you can send a private message (PM). You have to have so many posts before you can send a PM though.

no I am not . try PM ..

Hello! To all that are in clinicals: How long did it take you from the time that you enrolled in a clinical course til the time that the cohort gathered enough students? Do you have to take the full 15 weeks, or can you complete clinicals sooner than that?

Thanks! I'm going to start gathering preceptors soon for this fall and didn't know how to even start planning this!

Shannon,

they changed the rules in January. They aren't requiring a cohort anymore.

How do you find this stuff out? I feel like I'm in the dark, here! Also, I guess there's no seminar this summer for skills such as X-ray readings, suturing, etc. I sure wish there was! Are you guys learning about x-ray readings yet?

My co worker emailed the director about the cohort thing in early January and they told her they were changing the rules effective in February. I emailed the clinical director about what type of clinical preceptor to be looking for since I want to start in May. Start looking for preceptor 3-6 months in advance. I'm finding the GREAT preceptors are booked for fall already and some are balking when they see the school requirements they have to do as preceptors. I wish they would send us a mass email when the rules change.

That would be nice... I'm enrolled in an FNP program, I'd like to know about FNP program changes :) I guess they didn't make any changes to the crap that our preceptors have to do? I am ECSTATIC about the cohort change... though I guess it would be nice to talk to other students who are in the same place. We're all going about at a thousand different paces through the program so no one is every in the same place! I wish everyone would get active on the Facebook page! I'm curious to know how many students are in the program and how many are going to graduate this May!

So basically, as soon as you're ready with your preceptor... you're good to go? I wonder how long the approval process takes and if I can get paperwork with a preceptor done sooner so it's all ready when I get to that place in the program. Have you already sent in your immunizations, , etc to the college? I've just been doing lots of CE's to prove my competence in bloodborne pathogens and HIPAA training. I hope that's enough.

Thank you so much for your help... you've been awesome :)

Me too. Inquiring minds want to know.. I hope they publish something about it in the little catalog thingy I got in the mail this past week.
