Tracey, how much homework do you have for clinical.. Soap notes per week/ day ect ? How much. "paperwork " does the preceptor do, it seems the preceptors have to do clinical logs or something to that effect. Thanks
Lots of paperwork for clinical.... there is a log that you are responsible for maintaining in the Typhon tracker. You load an encounter for every patient you see in a clinical day, and the competencies you used. The hard part is you have to pick the CPT code and ICD-9 for the patient, and this is the first time in my life I have had to code anything. Then you scan in your notes or T sheets. Then each week, you have to submit 2 more detailed soaps. Then there is a weekly official written assignment, a clinical write up or annotated SOAP, which is a detailed PE, ROS, and differential and treatment rationale. Also, weekly online postings with the cohorts takes place. It is a lot of work. I do clinical on Fri and Sat. and spend the whole day Sunday doing my homework!
The clinical advisor reviews all your stuff and makes sure you are staying on track with what you need to learn, and gives feedback. They also come for a site visit each semester to watch you in action.
My advisor has been very quick in getting back to me when I have questions, and so far so good.
As for the accreditation question, I am under the impression that the program is accredited by the CCNE, but not the AACNE. The program only has to be accredited by one for you to sit for the exam. Frontier is accredited by both the CCNE and AACNE and perhaps St Joes is planning to get accredited by both....I check with my state board of nursing and St. Joes is on the list of accredited programs. If it was not, no one would be doing any clinicals! If anyone knows otherwise, I would appreciate any info
Tracey One last question how much work is on the preceptor each week after they get their approval from school and they watch that preceptor video, how much time a week do you think they spend on whatever logging they have to do us?
Both my preceptors balked at logging on the computer. They send written reports to my advisor and clinical coordinator, and that seems to be working....don't know if the school will crack down and force them to use the Typhon tracker. However, it is so difficult finding preceptors, my hope is that the school will let them review my performance as they see fit.
Can anyone tell me what would be the process for finding a preceptor in NY in nassau county or queens? I would like to apply to St. jo but I need to know I will be able to complete the entire program.
My advisor said that they wouldn't have let u sign up with school if not approved. She said there is just a few states left for approval and school is working on them.
Hi guys, for admissions requirement to the fnp program, does the RN license need to be in the state where I will do preceptorship? or can I have a license, for example, in New Mexico ONLY but will do my preceptorship in Nevada? Thanks
