St joseph hospital school of nursing.

Published

Hello everyone, I am new allnurses.com. I am glad to see that there is a site where I can communicate with nurses from all over. I have a question. I recently applied to St joseph Hospital school of nursing located at 8th girard ave in philadelphia, PA. It is an accelerated one year RN program. I am somewhat concerned because I don't know much about the school. They don't even have a website. I wm currently working on prequisites to start the program in november. It is fairly new and just opened up about three years ago. I would love to get the input of someone that knows about the program or has graduated from it...thanks a lot.

What is strange about st joseph is that they are fully aware that have no federal funding, and yet they make little or no effort to look into other grants, scholarships, and foundations for help! Where is the support for students? On my own I've talked to foundations that would consider providing funding for the school if only a proposal or application for the grant was done...Donors would love to give money and scholarships to a new nursing program!I think it's crazy...In addition, I read on the internet that St Joseph recieved 200,000 grant from Ed Rendell. I guess they didn't feel the need to put any of this funding aside for financial aid! I came to the conclusion that st joseph will never reach the nclex pass rate that they need unless their priorities change. They are not doing enough to support the students, Therefore will not get the best! Good luck to all who is going into the program...At this point Im not sure if Im going to start in january!:(

I was told that the 250 dollars to hold our seat is not refundable, so I didn't pay it. If nothing has changed by tomorrow, I will be unable to attend in January.:bluecry1:

I didn't pay it either.....I guess I will be looking into other programs!:(

that program has too many issues. they are unprofessional.

I am glad that you are reading and understanding the facts about this school, as well as doing research. The 200,000 dollars that was received by the school was not invested to improve the standards/coditions of the education for the students. Students are still working with five computers when they are working and no ink for the printer the majority of the time, because students were told that the ink cost over 2oo dollars and only one would be provided per a month. Students were also told, the main reason there is no ink, it is due to students making copies from the text book. Where is all the profit going from the application fee, when the class of 2008, which was suppose to be had over 300 applicants times the 250 dollars, because it is non-refundable. Also, a lot of the 200,000 dollars that was received, was probably used to purchase the new office furniture and oriental rugs for the admin. Staff. So once again count your blessings for not going to this school, because God is trying to spare you the grief.

All I can say is WOW!!!! I never heard of st Joes Nursing school before reading this thread...@ first I got excited when I found out about it but as I read through the posts I am no longer excited....I'm starting Mont County Comm college in the Spring and plan to petition for acceptance in the nursing program by fall 09 for the spring 09 class. They accept students 3x's a year and its all based on points...if they waitlist u and u dont get in..U will need to petition for admission again the next semester. Also, u dont have to live in Montgomery county to get it..but if u do, u will rec a tuition discount and get a couple extra points....They have 2 campuses 1 in blue bell and the other in pottstown...I just wanted to give that info....I pray that everything works out for all of you...Also, I think the person who said wait til they get their kinks out to apply was right on point...New programs are bound to have problems...but dont consider going to a program thats not accrediated..Oh and 1 more thing Abington Hospital has a nursing program...its a diploma program as well...hth

St' Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing is a complete rip off . They have the highest application fee I have ever heard of for a Nursing school. Try $150.00 :twocents:. Thats just the application fee. Not including your testing or the anything else you may have to put out. They extended their application acceptence this year. Why? Hummm. Only to tell majority of the people that they were not accepted for reasons like 1) they took a class twice, 2) they did excellent on the NET test but they could not retain science topics(crazy I know) :angryfire. This happen to 2 different people I know that applied. this was before their application went before the committee for consideration. Not to mention they don't have the best reputation of graduates passing the NCLEX the first go round. Coworkers that graduated last year from the program stated that they weren't prepared and that they failed the first time. I think they needed more money and that is why they extended their application acceptance date. Only to reject majority of the people. I would not recommend this school to a rat in hell on a cold day. Good luck. look elsewhere for a better program :yeah:.

This message is for all students who have been thinking about going to St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. Please, if you did'nt get the understanding other students were trying to put out there then listen to this. The school is not accreditated so there is no loan or financial aid you can receive, If you don't make the cut you can not transfer your grades anywhere else. Some wrote that you must teach yourself and try hard to make it through, well this isn't a contest where you have to fight for position, this is about attaining an education that will prepare you for the best in taking care of a life. See, this school was designed to help students of color who was having a hard time getting into other nursing schools and passing the state board of nursing. There was suppose to be in place extra support for the students that were accepted because (remember what the school was designed for), so the school was aware of the students academic weakness. This is the second class for this program with a pass rate of 25% the first class which lets you know this is a problem. Its not that the students are dumb and didn't do the work but that the school, staff, and CEO has failed the students and have been fradulant towards them by doing so there are instructors teaching students that are not qualified to teach certain materials and don't have knowledge of what they are teaching and telling students they will get back to them with information that they don't have and never get back with it. So, to think you are going to make it by just studying hard may not be the only option. The material that is being taught and given to be studied does not reflect what is presented on test. What i am trying to say is that you need teachers that are going to teach and want you to succeed and care. There is academic dishonesty praticed at this school, you have students sleeping with board members and a newly hired tutor who extends prejudice remarks that are not appropiate. So, please do yourself and family a favor and rethink your decision about attending this unaccredited school.

All I can say is that I am now sooooo happy that my application was returned to me in the mail b/c of the wrong address. At least I was spared from them cashing my check and having my money. Like most students out there I really just wanted to be admitted into an RN program. But if this is what I would have to deal with I rather wait a bit longer.

If they don't get that pass rate up pronto, they will lose their accreditation. I don't know how many years they have to achieve 75% or better, but it looks and sounds like they have an uphill climb.

I am so sorry for those of you who have not succeeded at this school. Please don't give up on your dream! Find another school that does care about your ability to succeed.

I actually don't think they are accredited right now.

:(:(:(I have also applied to this program. This program is so fishy! I have just decided not to go and waste my money! I would be scared they would

close down suddenly! What if more teachers leave the next school year? Everyone there seems like there up to no good. They ignore phone calls when you have questions; when Bill Deane finally calls back he seems rude! I wasted my money and time! There is no organization. The office areas are a run down part of a old hospital. All the money (23,000 per student) a year has gone where? The money from Rendell where? The $150

application fee times all applicants, where? My application sat there since July, completed in September, no interview until November, and told I'd

here in a week, 5 weeks later no response. Told after phone call after phone call, when they finnally responded, my acceptance was on hold until

the first batch (of fools) responded. So if you get accepted now (in Dec), you have 4 weeks to get a loan, uniforms, books, babysitter, quit your job, etc, then start a program from hell(wht it sounds like!) Looks like they'll be sending alot out in december, loans aren't going thru for people and I hope others have found this sight like I did accidently! This place won't be around long.:sniff::sniff::sniff:
