Hello everyone, I am new allnurses.com. I am glad to see that there is a site where I can communicate with nurses from all over. I have a question. I recently applied to St joseph Hospital school of nursing located at 8th girard ave in philadelphia, PA. It is an accelerated one year RN program. I am somewhat concerned because I don't know much about the school. They don't even have a website. I wm currently working on prequisites to start the program in november. It is fairly new and just opened up about three years ago. I would love to get the input of someone that knows about the program or has graduated from it...thanks a lot.

Hello

I can understand that you feel nervous. I have not heard anything good about that program. I was told by a current student attending the program that it is very disorganized. Some of the students are afraid that they are not learning enough to be safe in a hospital setting let alone to pass the boards. Lastly, the St. Joe's student was told that out of 60 students, only 4 people took the boards and only 1 passed.

I appreciate your input. Thats what I was afraid of.....

So St. Joe's Hospital only graduated 4 students out of the 60 in the program?!? Am I understanding that correctly?

I think that they graduated the entire 60 people.....however....only the 1 passed the boards on the first try.....out of the 4 ......

Hi, I know 3 students that graduated from that school, it was disorganized, however I graduated from a well known college and it was also disorganized at times. They were all in the first class; The program just started so there are going to be kinks. As my friend checked online there were a number of people in her program that passed the boards and are currently practicing. There are pros and cons to any program, a larger college you may pass the first time but you will pay loans for the rest of your life. I beleive its what you make of it, get experience at your clinicals, study hard I am sure you will do fine.Good Luck!:yeah:

Hi Can'twaittobeanurse,

Congrats on getting a job at Hahn. I just want to say again I was only giving information that was given to me by a current St. Joe's student.

Congrats again:-)

hi, i have been trying to get a website for this program my mom told my wife about because my wife was interested in doing the one year program there. what usually takes 2-2.5 years somewhere else, is great. my questions are : 1. what is the tuition?

2. what is the schedule like?

3. what prerequisites are there? entrance exam,etc..etc..

Hi, There is no website for St Joseph's so the best way to get information about the school is to call the school directly at 215 787 2323. I believe the school hours are 7:30-8:30 mon-fri. cost is 23,000 for the year They do require several prerequsites english I and II, sociology, chemistry, algerbra, anatomy I and II, microbiology, nutrition. As was told that anatomy II and microbiology can be taking while in the program, but I think that soon may change because I think they have a new dean... The program is 12 months feb to feb and you get a diploma in nursing...I was also told that they have a bridge program with for BSN...i hope this helps

I am in the process of submitting my application sometime this week. The application fee is a bit hefty ($150) and the tuition is $23,000 for the entire program. But when you take into account that it is a very small school (60 students p/yr) they have to make income appear from somewhere. I just like that the program takes one year to complete which is such a plus to me. I called the enrollment manager Bill Deane and he was very straight forward and answered all of my questions. Wish me luck!!:nurse:
