St joseph hospital school of nursing.

Hello everyone, I am new allnurses.com. I am glad to see that there is a site where I can communicate with nurses from all over. I have a question. I recently applied to St joseph Hospital school of nursing located at 8th girard ave in philadelphia, PA. It is an accelerated one year RN program. I am somewhat concerned because I don't know much about the school. They don't even have a website. I wm currently working on prequisites to start the program in november. It is fairly new and just opened up about three years ago. I would love to get the input of someone that knows about the program or has graduated from it...thanks a lot.

I think it is quiet because those who are in the program are so busy studying they dont have time to post and those who moved on are trying to find a new program to apply to. Alot of schools are closing down in Philly, the amount of student wanting to be nurses outnumber the number of programs available. It is getting harder people. Good Luck To All.

St. Joe's has 59 students attending this year. So, they did start in Jan.

Nursing is the only field right now that is still trying to hire and is not firing anyone.

There have been plenty of layoffs of nurses, all across the country. Just check the "nursing news" part of All Nurses.

I wish them luck and hope it doesn't close!

:scrying:hi everybody i am new to allnurses.com iwas so glad too see all the post on saint josephs hospital school of nursing. this school truly has all the defficiences that are mentioned. i am a new student for the class beginning january 2009. this school, in my experience, is totally unorganized, both financially and staff, that i wish i had done more reseach befor investing over $6500 in tuition fees , books ,etal. just 8 weeks into the program the president had a meeting with those that had paid for the semester. thats correct. only one third of the class of 60 have paid to attend this so called "accelerated" program. the president had informed us in the meeting that if those that have not paid do not fullfill thier responsibilities financially, the school will be forced to close. this meaning that i and the other one third will be out our money, and have no transferable credits, since the school is non accredited. i am totally frustrated at this point and i plan to leave the program, and cut my losses, since this seems to be very suspicious to me, to say the least. please read all on the blog that is negative, because it is true. good luck in your choices and whatever you decide do not do what i had done:scrying:

wow, thats terrible, but you should always go with your gut instinct, this school didn't seem right since day one. when i first inquired about the school , with the cost and not begin accredit school was not worth the risk times is hard these days. sorry again, but always check allnurses for anything, you could can find all of your answers here

I am so sad to hear that it is a possibility that the school may close....I planned on starting I january 09 too, but after I realized how St Joseph operated, I made the very hard decision not to go. See, I lost as well and I didn't even start the program. I invested time and money in prequisites that I don't need for any other nursing programs. I paid the 150.00 app fee, paid for transcripts, criminal backround checks, net test etc..I am angry to hear that St Joseph would even think to blame the students if they close! They gave little or no support when it came to financial aid...They invested little time and research into scholarships and funding even though they knew they would not get the Pheaa loan this year....When I needed help they had no answers for me ....They could not offer not one scholarship to me..for tuition for books for nothing , even though I had a 3.2 gpa and 86 composite score on the net!!!They should blame themselves...People tell me when one door closes god opens another because I got accepted to university accelerated program for fall 09...I say that just to say to keep pushing to pursue your goals it will work out in the end...And for the current students at St Joseph..I will keep you in my prayers and hope that the school can at least stay open until you graduate.

PS after all the horrors that i have spoken of, i, like a fool ,paid my first semester fees, in excess of $5000, even after being told that at the last minute the school raised thier tuition fees from $23000 to $25000. i already paid my application fees, criminal background checks, health reports, transcripts, net test etc...:jester:

Your planning to leave? are you going to try to stick it out? or is things just that bad. My suggestion to the students who are currently attending St Joseph is to do what to school is not doing...Call every single foundation they can possibly find to get money for the school...Back in nov when I was planning on going to st Joseph I called a foundation and spoke with a coordinator who stated that what I was doing is smart, but the problem was that this particular foundation only provided funding to k-12...Many corporations and foundations would be willing provide funding to a school like st joseph it just take someone to do the leg work and find it....Usually this would be financial aid, but if they won't do it then the students may have to. The students should have a meeting with the dean and financial aid, ask them what other sources of funding are they looking in to... I think it's better to try to finish the program, at least then you can enroll in the online program and get your BSN, so if they close after that it won't matter! I would suggest trying everything possible before leaving the school an wasting your time and money... best of luck to all!

hey just so you know they do have a website its sjhson.org they have all their information of the program posted as well as the pre-reqs and tuition.

wow that's crazy! But in a way i think it's the smartest thing That the school has did thus far.... Going to the news is their last best chance!...Hopefully a someone who can connect with these student's dilemma can provide the school with the much needed funding....
