I was THRILLED when I found out I had been moved all the way to FIRST ALTERNATE for this fall but now I'm just going CRAZY! LOL I keep my phone within 2 feet of me at all times... Peek at it every few minutes when I'm in the shower...Haha You never know when they might call right?
But this whole maybe ya will, maybe ya won't stuff is just too much! I have two little boys, do I need to have a daycare? Should I be getting ready? Part of me thinks I should plan as though I'm going to start and the other part of me thinks if I go through all of that and don't end up starting it will break my heart!!!!
I just want to know one way or the other! Sorry for the vent... Good luck to all of you that have a for sure spot this fall! Hope I'm right there with you!
It's an ADN (RN) Program. If I get in, I will graduate in May of 2011.I would LOVE to get the summer off!!! Spend some much needed time with my boys... Oh well. It's really only a little over a year and a half and it will be worth it! I am blessed that I don't have to work. I don't think I could take that on top of school and kids! It's going to be hard enough not getting to spend as much free time with them.
I'm also trying to get accepted into an ADN (RN) program. I only have two more pre's to go A&P 2 and micro. Did you take micro yet ? How was it if you did ? Also what test did you have to take to get in ? You are blessed to not have to work. Lucky lucky you. Being a mother of little ones is tough. Well I might as well tell you I'm older then you well... probably much... older. My children are older I have a almost 21 yr old son ( In his last year of college majoring in pre med (bio) ) hopefully by the end of the year we will find out what med school he is accepted in to. And a 14 yr old daughter going to high school this year. As they say where did the years go !!! It's great you are going to school with raising little ones ! I married young @ 20 and had my neil a year later. It was'nt until my son went to college is when I thought about going back. I like to see young mothers going back to school and fulfilling their dreams young. :yeah:
I was #10 on the alternate list and got "the call" like a week after the deadline to have our physicals and immunizations in. A week later, a classmate of mine who was #29 on the alternate list got her call.I think that you have a pretty good chance of getting in especially considering they called you to let you know you've been moved up a few spots. I'd say that call alone is a good sign.
Good luck!!!
Thanks for the encouragement! Every week I have new hope...then it gets to be Thursday and still no call...lol Maybe tomorrow?! Congrats to you on getting your call and good luck in school!!!!!!!

Hi there! Yep I've had micro! I LOVED it! It was my favorite class. I found all the information to be really interesting and I had a great teacher that actually took the time to teach us so we understood the information instead of just reading to us out of the book as some teachers do. I will say that the thing that "stuck" with me after taking that class is, WASH YOUR ******* HANDS!!! I think they make you take it just to scare the crap out of you! I'll tell you, I have a whole new appreciation for germies. lol :chuckle
My school accepts students based on their ACT scores, GPA, Compass scores, Interview scores, and after being accepted you have to either pass their nursing math test or take a class called Math for Health Occupations. Once you've completed all of these steps (and received their minimum required scores on the tests) you're pretty much automatically accepted. Then, you wait. And wait, and wait, and wait.... Usually about 2 years. And it's no fun. I was originally supposed to start Fall 2011! I moved into 2010 this spring, and -as you know- I'm next in line to start THIS AUGUST!!!!
Good luck to you on your last two classes and getting into school!!! :wink2:
Hi how how are you doing ? I was just thinking about you. Now that it is fri you must me on pins and needles. Remember you still have some time to get that much anticipated call. In the mean time keep your self busy and enjoy the weekend ! thanks for getting back to me about micro so you think it's doable ? I went on rate your professors and some people said my teacher is good but tough. She dos'nt like slackers. (who does ?) And her tests are on her lectures so don't miss classes. But what worries me is also they said she moves fast. One person said to tape her classes. I'm assuming she allows this. What if she dos'nt. Enough of me you are so lucky that you don't have to take a test ! Also do you happen to know how many in your school they are accepting and how many applied ? I was told off the record that there was 2000 people for 125 slots that applied to our school last year ! My odds are against me. But I'm not going to give up. If I have to switch schools I will. The only thing is the cost ! Take care remember people who were farther on their list got that call !!!!

Yes, micro is definitely doable! Just like anything, you just have to work for it.
As far as my school goes, for the most part as long as you meet all their requirements (interview, various test scores, reference letters) you are accepted. That's why there's such a looooooooooong waiting list to get in. They consider the nursing programs to be selective admissions but as long as you jump through all the hoops, you can usually get a spot. :wink2:
Anyway, tomorrow is Monday. Maybe this will be the week!!!! Hehe :redbeathe I think I'm going to go shopping for school supplies tomorrow. I'm thinking optimistically!!!!
I recommend getting all of the blood work done in advance and get what you need sans the TB if that is required. The titers and immunizations don't have an expiration date to them and at least it gives you something to do that is progressive towards your first day of Nursing School, if its last minute and you start and have to hurry and get this all done, along with the required reading, they will no doubt give you alot to do on Day One for sure. Just my two cents.

Thank you!!! I had thought about that but I'm not sure if my insurance will cover any of it... The lady in the nursing office told me to wait on all that, but if they don't expire I may have to do that. Thanks again!
Insurance usually covers the blood work as titers are standerd. Have your regular doctor order it. My insurance didn't cover the immunizations because I am an adult. But do you have CVS there? Some of them have a Minute Clinic and the immunizations are CHEAP!! I have to have my TB updated again, since its been almost a year and its like $20 through them. Td ( tetorifice ) is $42, The Hep B series is $62 each. They also do college physicals there for $30. I thought this was a damn good deal!
I found out the hard way that my insurance didn't covder my tetorifice shot after I'd gotten it when I received a bill for $250 not counting the $20 co-pay I'd already forked over!

$250 for a tetorifice booster???? Sounds awfully greedy to me. Then again, that describes a lot of the Explanation of Benefit statement charges I see. Ridiculous things along the lines of "charge from your provider....$17,413....negotiated rate $2.75." Yes, I'm exaggerating, but that's the gist of the bills. Stick the full inflated rates to the non-insured patient, while charging more reasonable fees to those covered by insurance.

I got the Td booster for free from the Health Dept. You can go to a clinic and get the TB skin test done for like $10-$15
Hi!!! I can only wonder if you've heard anything yet...
I know we're in the EXACT same position since we've talked on other threads and I still haven't heard anything from my school except that I'm STILL #1 on the waiting lilst. I have to send in my letter requesting that I be reconsidered for spring 2010 within the next few weeks and it's the most disheartening letter to write. I hate weekends because I know they won't call on a weekend day so I'm grateful that it's Monday, but every week that passes with no call is just driving me INSANE!!
Plus it's time to start applying to programs for spring 2010 admission!! How am I supposed to know if I even NEED to apply for spring 2010?! Plus, most of the schools around here start their fall 2010 application process right after their spring 2010 applications are due, so I won't even hear back about spring 2010 before I need to start applying for fall!!!!! What a waste of money, time, and effort.
I really am praying for you. I know exactly what it feels like to be in your position and I can only hope we both get in.
