Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

jpet101: Honestly there is just no way to know. I was one of the students that had a 3.4 gpa and got in whereas there were people I knew with a 4.0 that didn't. If you meet the overall criteria to get in you will most likely get an interview but after that, I believe it is all based on the interview process and how well you do on that.

Ok I am apping for the 2011 summer semester here is what I'm coming in with:

Nursing prereqs: 3.88

Science GPA 4.0

Uundergrad GPA 3.06

Grad GPA 3.6

HESI Language 93

HESI Math 94

HESI A&P 96

HESI CRITICAL 860

MLT cert, army vet, and 15 years in healthcare.

I've really tired to put together a bang up app, but with the low expectance rate I'm very far from thinking it's a done deal. Can anyone that has been accepted let me know how I measure up. Anyone with similar stats get a reject letter?

is that what is listed on their system or is that what you posted?

looks good you should get an interview.

If you know how to talk to people and be compassionate and have an interview I am sure you can get in. then again...

i am still waiting.

Caitster, Looking around your class have you picked up on anything that is a common thread amoung your peers? Also, you saw some ppl with 4.0's not get in? What was the story with that? No medical background?

i think what caitster is trying to say is that if you are academically qualified. the interview will determine whether you enter or not and not grades

@jpet- previous semesters there have been students with close to 4.o gpa's & plenty of exp. that did not get in. The reason ???. Apparently the interviewers are plenty important. They get a sense of you as a person.

@Delgadido- has your gf gotten an interview letter? I have two classmates that have not received interview letters so i was just wondering.

Delgadido: That's exactly what I was trying to say! The people with the 4.0's got interviews but that doesn't mean they got accepted. In my opinion, if you meet all of the requirements you will most likely get an interview but after that the school really looks at your interview and writing assignment for your acceptance.

jpet101: The class I am in is extremely diverse and we all come from very different backgrounds. The common thread we do have is that we are so eager to learn and we all have this need to help others. I love the class I am in. We all lean on each other for support and everyone is so nice.

sadly no =(

Thanks after reading this, I may actually post an app to another school or two. But I'm still hoping UT picks me up. Nothing left to do now but wait.

Hi all....if letters of acceptance are out around Nov. 15, and school starts around the first of the year, then I need to find a place to live real soon. Not being from Houston, are there decent and safe apartments available? What about school living arangements? thanks.

sigh i am actually really worried now. I have to take engl 2 still. i wanted to take it in winter term....

but the date of the class being done is the same date as the the start of school for spring....

I may have to take it at a community college that has theirs done earlier. I already paid and registered but I guess I have no choice

Do you mean that you just found out that you have to take it before the spring semester ? You can do it! Take it in a mini term at a CC and it shouldn't be that hard.

Has Winter Mini started yet? If it hasn't, you can still get a full refund, can't you?
