I've decided to make this page for anyone applying for the Spring 2019 ADN program at Lone Star CF/K. I'm so nervous and it's still kinda far away! Good luck!
I did not know cy fair was an 18 month program. I planned on taking Micro during the summer, but if I have nursing classes over the summer then that kind of puts a dent in my plans. I mean I guess I have to take it during my first semester no matter what now. I have taken all of my other core classes including Pharm. How would I take this class? Because isn't the first few weeks of the first semester 8-5pm everyday? Would I have to plan my micro class at night? Also, how hard is the first semester? According to the course guide I looked at online, since I've already taken psychology and a&p2 that knocks out two classes from the first semester and leaves me with introduction to nursing, health assessment and nursing skill 2. Sorry for so many questions! Lol
I didn't know that either! I'm super excited now to be done in 18 months instead of 24!!
If you don't mind me asking, what was your overall score when applying? I'm just super nervous. Also, they don't allow you working while in the program, correct? Thanks!
Hello everyone one. I definately know how each and everyone of you are feeling right now. That's because i was in your shoes last year. This waiting game is horrible if you ask me. I am currently in the ADN program at Cy-fair. I am in the 3rd semester. I remember that when i applied, we recieved notifications for Cy-fair during the first week of October, but that may have been because there was alot going on after Harvey. I know that the previous year, notifications were sent out around 09/21. I do believe Kingwood sends out notifications earlier though but i am not sure. One thing i can say about the program at Cy-fair is that it is tough since it is only 18 months; Spring, Summer (this is the toughest semester), Fall, Spring. I believe Kingwood is 24 months but they give you the option to take classes during the summer. During this time, try to take any classes you are missing for the degree plan; A&P 2, Micro, Pharmacology, and an elective like an Arts class. You can take them while in the program, but you'll be adding to your workload. If you decide to take them while in the program, just don't do it during the Summer semester because it only lasts 10 weeks instead of 16, you will be taking 2 classes and attending 2 clinicals per week. I don't want to scare any of you because at the end of the day, it's doable. You just have to buckle up, make alot of sacrifices for the next 18 months, be mentally prepared, have good time management, set reminders all the time and pass the semester with atleast a 75. There's so much i can tell you guys but this post is already too long
. Feel free to ask me any questions. Questions from the application process may be difficult to answer since i applied over a year ago and things may have changed. Good luck guys!
Thank you! I can't wait to be done. No, you do not get to take the LVN NCLEX. The reason why is because it is another program and as you will learn in Health Assessment, Skills, and Med Surg, the role of LVNs and RNs differ quite a bit. I know that you can sit for the CNA board exam after the first semester but you have to pay for it yourself. I believe it's $300 or $400, not sure.
No the first semester is not 8-5 every day. You take three classes during the first semester ; Health Assessment, Skills, and Intro to Nursing. HA is usually on Tuesday morning, Skills is usually on Thursday morning. Both classes last 2 to 3 hrs, i don't remember. Intro is usually either on Mondays or Fridays. The days may be different for your cohort but the number of days in school per week is constant. There are no clinicals during the first semester at Cy-fair. That's why most students chose to take any additional classes they may need during the first semester. To be quite honest, this is the easiest semester.
Sorry i didn't answer the other part of your question. They recommend you do not work during the program but lets all be realistic... Life does not stop bc you are in nursing school. If you are lucky enough to have a support system that supports you financially, great. If you do not, you have to do what you have to do. That's why i mentioned in my first post that sacrifices and good time management skills are necessary to make it. Personally, i still work but i have considerably reduced my hours at work so i can be successful in school.

Thanks for the info! If I make it, I'll definitely buy your books if you still have them and everything is the same. I'm applying for Kingwood. So hopefully it's the same as Cy-fair.
I took the HESI this morning at the Montgomery campus and plan to apply to Kingwood for the Spring. How long does it usually take for the HESI score to be posted on your application page? Also, at the moment there is no "submit" button. Will that appear once my scores are posted? There are currently only links/buttons for FAQs, Requirements, Document Uploading, Print, and Logout. All documents have been uploaded and course grades are listed. Thanks!

It should show an "Application" tab as well, do you see that? If not, I'd contact the school to see when they are posting grades. If they don't know, contact nursing department.

I'd probably give it until in the morning for your scores to import, once they do you *should* see the application tab since the system will recognize your eligibility to apply, at least that's how it panned out for me with getting my transfer grades posted. If you don't see scores by tomorrow afternoon I'b probably just touch base with them.
Good luck!
