Spring 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

Thanks guys! It's *just* an acceptance to the University, but I'm still going to celebrate that milestone!

Congratulations Jen!!! That's awesome :) I'm happy we're all able to follow each other's journeys and share our accomplishments.

You guys are the best

How is everyone doing?

I took a super hard test in Micro yesterday and got an A. It wouldn't have been quite so hard if I had actually studied. I had a "holy crap I'm so stressed" moment this weekend and just sort of shut down.

I took my lab exam for A&P II last week over the digestive system and I surprised myself by getting a 100%. Go me!

I'm picking up my graduation packet today. This is all becoming very real! I can see the tiny, wee pinpoint of light at the end of this tunnel.

Hope everyone is well!

I keep meaning to email to see if they told you how to do the second app yet or if you need me to tell you where it is, but I get distracted.. Oops. :x I went to submit my HESI score only to have the advisor tell me I have to redo it, because I didn't take (wasn't offered) the learning and personality sections. So I begrudgingly set that up, I'm trying to find a positive in it, that I can study math a little more and hopefully score a few points better.

Congrats on that A, I know how you feel. I only got an 86 on my second micro exam and beat myself up for two days - sad that we are stressing so much but it will all be worth it REALLY SOON.

I've got an A&P II exam to study for this week myself, wish me luck.

I don't know why I put A, it should have been 80!

I just got the email that they were done reviewing my transcripts, so now I have to contact an advisor. I just haven't had time. I had volunteer orientation yesterday (I get to cuddle and feed NICU babies!).

The learning and personality sections are only 14 questions each - do you have to retake the whole test? That's butt.

Good luck on your A&P II exam. I just got home from our first day of rat dissection!

I'm having a mental shutdown week - it's been pretty overwhelming trying to figure out my next step in this whole journey.

I'm kinda getting tired of my college as they're just handing out grades at this point for some of my classes - thankfully my sciences have been pretty thorough and we had to really work for the A's we got, but the other classes leave so much to be desired. I'm pulling my hair out from boredom in other classes such as psych and stats - I was hoping to really enjoy these, but professors' willingness to just throw As at people is just so disheartening.

I even had a text from an old A&P 1 classmate offering to pay me $150 to take her A&P2 final online for her :/ People regularly cheat in exams and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of repercussion.

The nursing program at my community college is pretty competitive with only 30 slots per semester, so I figured that I should look elsewhere instead of sticking all my eggs in one basket.

I didn't want to take out a loan, but I had a meeting at a local teaching hospital and it seems like this is the direction I should take - I'll graduate just a smidge later, but I'll have a bachelors instead of an associates which is a huuuuge step up. Trying to mishmash classes, get transcripts over and figure out what I should take for the fall semester is a struggle as my college is so slow that half the time we don't even know who's teaching fall until like 3 weeks before the semester starts...

A lot of the professors at my college have kinda meh reviews, so I'm really taking chances by staying where I am, unless I luck out and there's a slot in a decent professor's class.

Add to this that it's the final slog of the semester, so it's like a barrage of exams D; I'm going to eat a whole carrot cake when the semester ends. Don't you try and stop me! @_@

(Sorry for rambling lol D: )

Winding down on the spring semester! I am so very over it. I always hit a wall at this point in a semester, it's just very tiring. Sitting at 98%, 95%, 96% and 97% in my classes, with only a couple of exams to go. Nursing application in, but still have to wait until end of May until I hear back from them.

There are three weeks left in this semester and I couldn't be happier 😊

I have a little over 4 weeks left... I'm done on May 11. But between now and then I still have 2 lecture exams/1 lab practical/3 quizzes for Micro, 1 lecture exam/1 lab practical/2 quizzes for A&P I, a powerpoint presentation for Micro lab, my unknown project/lab report for Micro lab, and comprehensive finals for Chem, Micro, and A&P. Plus several lab reports and other random homework assignments. I'm so tired. :sorry:

And then I start summer school on May 15 so there's that. lol

I believe so, yes, I had to pay for the whole thing so I might as well get what I'm paying for, right?

A&P Exam, I ended up with a 94. As long as I can hold onto my A's in these, I am hopeful for an acceptance letter! (I'm just praying that the B in A&P 1 won't haunt me forever and ever, since UTA won't accept a retake on it)

@Capa I wish I had advice for you. I am sort of in the same situation, no idea how I should proceed from here and it's frustrating. I can't believe how many people cheat and so openly! Good for you for sticking to your guns and not falling in with that.

I could start an ADN program as soon as Spring, because I have the pre reqs all done and ready to go, and the BSN pre reqs could take as long as next fall to get done. Which seems so, so far away from this point. But then I figure in the RN-BSN time and it's basically the same as just doing BSN straight away? Ugh. All the waiting is killing me slowly.

GOOD LUCK to all of us as we wind down this Spring semester!

Congratulations, Jen!

I decided that I will not be applying for the Nursing program at my local community college - I'm not going to throw all my chips in with these guys if they're not willing to crack down on academic dishonesty, among other things.

I went for an interview at the local teaching hospital/health science college dealio we have here in Memphis and I was absolutely blown away by the campus, staff, and even the reviews. I'll not be able to start the nursing program until next fall at the earliest, but I'll wind up graduating with a BSN just a little later than I would have graduated with the associates. To top it off, because of my 4.0, I will get more funding too, so I'm really excited - going this route is going to cost me much less than I'd anticipated, and I'll be at one of the best places in west TN.

I'm going to return to my community college in the fall; then I'll have another semester of pre-reqs there, transfer out and finish their mandatory classes over the next 2 trimesters, which will put me in a prime spot to start Nursing in September.

I'm so ready for this D: haha

Good luck everyone!!
