I know this is pretty early but i just finished my pre reqs for nursing and im on the border but I seriously CAN NOT wait to apply in march! Ill be finishing my AA if i dont get in.. so i will apply again if that happens but fingers crossed it wont! 3.766 gpa for application.. are you all excited?! Congrats to who got in last semester by the way! What how do you all feel at this point in time? Im feeling a huge accomplishment coming! --
I'm not sure about the other schools, but SPC recently changed (or are soon changing) their requirements for the bridge program to include 1 year of recent LPN experience. There are so many students using the bridge route now, that requiring recent experience weeds out lesser qualified candidates.Good luck, guys. I know the wait is torture.
Yes they have already started that bs I understand
They want to make sure the nurses have experience but I had a friend who was an LPN for over 8 YEARS she stopped working so she could focus on school then come to find out she had to have a year of recent work experience, needless to say I think that was a bit crappy! I had a similar experience with that critical thinking and reading class, I applied last term to get denied because I didn't have that class, graduated magna cum laude but they were questioning whether I could read??!! Give me a break so I took the class last semester and come to find out it's not even a requirement anymore as of this term!! I'm beginning to question their tactics......
I know HCC has randomly suspended their LPN-RN transition program this year.. with all these horror stories I think I will just wait to be accepted into a RN program and not do a LPN program. I just need to be patient
Yeah at this point I don't think it would be worth it, a year to become an LPN then another year to gain experience and by then they'll change it to a 2 years work experience requirement
5 days girls.
I haven't seen many other men at Gibbs or rather Clearwater campus applying for this Fall. I'm interested to see how many.
And I hope you all have pocketed some change away for Nursing 1, it's a doozey on the check book. Almost 1200 for the book bundle. Plus tuition for 9 credits, which for all of you receiving the Pell Grant that means you will not be receiving full time status only part time.
According to SPC's College of Nursing Advisory Committee, if you look them up on SPC's website.. They have a pamphlet you can download from April 2017. Well in the pamphlet there is information that looks like an overview of what to expect for the upcoming years on several things dealing with the HEC campus. Anyway there is a section in there that talks about a bootcamp for LPNs:
The section states:
PREP Course: still in progress; held up on budgeting. This program will
serve as a prep course boot camp for 7 weeks for LPN students;
simulation, classes, and an assessment. The result would be the year
experience requirement and automatic admission to the ADN program.
Plan is to start pilot with 12 students in the summer semester. This will
be a non-credit course; $400-$500 per course; 8 hours one day a week
for 7 weeks. Information will be shared with PTech and others.
That info also states:Admission to the Health programs continues to be very competitive; recently in
one application period there were 30 students with 4.0 GPA's.
Im guessing that was to the nursing program so i feel like 30 out of 90 seats may be 4.0 students. I think we have a chance ladies! and other gentlemen without 4.0!
YAY!, Congrats!! Hey, don't worry if you don't get in. Just reapply with me for next semester! The ultimate goal is to become a nurse. Also they have a BSN transfer degree from SPC so that is what ill be doing seeing i havent taken chemistry or human nutrition! The ultimate goal will be reached eventually..

Thanks that's good to know! I'm super indecisive about what to do if I'm not accepted. I have already obtained my AA and all the nursing prereqs for a BSN. Trying hard to not stress out too much about it till after hearing from SPC
