SPC Spring 2018

Published

Hello everyone,

I haven't seen a Spring 2018 thread started for SPC nursing hopefuls so I decided to start one. I am very eager and anxious and I know a lot of you are too. So who else is applying for the Nursing program at St. Pete College for the spring?

A little bit about me. I have a BS in Psych and returning for nursing. I have all my prereqs completed and have a 3.66 GPA.. I have A's in all my sciences except Mirco Lab I have a B. I am super nervous about my GPA knowing that many others have better GPAs. I am holding out hope that other people will apply to other programs. Also historically the Spring is less competitive. I am hoping to get in for the night classes. The application opens on July 1st so we can apply in 3 days!!! Then wait for what will feel like forever. The suspense is already killing me.

Where are the rest of the SPC Nursing hopefuls? Sound off... 3..2..1.. GO!

Get nonporous ones. You're going to need to be able to clean them. It's not part of the dress code, though. It's part of the dress code to wear socks that match the color of your shoes, but it's not enforced. Also, I don't believe you can wear blue shoes. It's either black or white. And for god's sake don't bring your shoes into your house. Hospitals are nasty places.

Thanks for the input Purple_Clover! I'd PM you, but it looks like Allnurses doesn't let newbies PM. :) Are you in day or evenings; I'd definitely like to know which teachers to steer clear of, lol. Additionally, would you - or any of the Level Oners out there - be able to assist with some more questions? I'm sure this will be covered in orientation, but I'm just trying to complete as much as I can before then.

1. When you say all black or all white shoes, does this mean including the sole color? For example; would all black shoes with a white sole be permitted? Also, I'm assuming this means full color - as in - no logos/ornamentation of any other different colors, correct? Like, if a shoe is black, it can't have a white Nike logo?

2. What are some other materials you might suggest purchasing beforehand? (Stethoscopes, nursing watches, scissors, etc?)

3. For the vaccinations - where did everyone go to take care of these?

4. Are any of you utilizing the GI BIll? If so, what's your experience been like?

Thanks to anyone that would like to provide their experience/input! You guys are awesome and your guidance is SUPER appreciated!

I doubt they would care about the sole, and if the logos are small they won't care.

I would suggest getting a stethoscope, etc. beforehand. They're going to tell you to get a cheap stethoscope beforehand (something you wouldn't mind losing). Don't go out and buy a Littman Cardiology III or some ****. I personally bought the Littmann Lightweight. Not terribly expensive, but good quality. Honestly, the biggest thing about it was the good seal of the earpieces.

I went to the Florida Department of Health for everything. You're not going to find a cheaper place, esp. since I didn't have health insurance. Go on a day when you have nothing to do, because you're going to be waiting a while.

I'm finishing up Level 4 by the way, so feel free to ask questions more than just about Level 1, although I'm sure that's your most urgent interest

Thanks so much for all of the information you are willing to give us! I also cannot access the personal messages. Could you pm me as well about instructors? Thanks again!

1. Yes knock that out before - trust me you won't have time after

2. The uniform stores always have supply so no worries there

3. Shoes are you pref for materials. Mine are cloth. Some people get leather or other spill proof material. As long as their all one color (incl midsole) your all set

I'm at the VA (day group) right now - it's AMAZING! Great staff over there and we have a great instructor! We wear the same uniform at the VA as the rest of the students do. I have enjoyed my time thus far with the VA and look forward to the rest of my clinical rotations with them!! It's awesome getting to help the veterans!

Also, I don't believe you can wear blue shoes.

I have blue shoes - they are super hard to find but I have them.

Next term I will be moving to black though as these ones are killing my feet at the end of a clinical day!

Who knows when we find out which clinical site we are going to get, at orientation? My top 3(since VA is only days) were:

Madonna Ptak Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center (Tue & Wed 1 - 11pm)

Northside Hospital (Tue & Wed 1 - 11pm)

Health South Rehabilitation Hospital (Tue & Wed 1 - 11pm)

Do we have to keep tattoos covered?

Is anyone having trouble in the clinical requirements section near the bottom of the todo list submitting the drug test and background check results because you ordered it before 11/01? Or did everyone wait till 11/01 to place the order?
