Hello everyone,

I haven't seen a Spring 2018 thread started for SPC nursing hopefuls so I decided to start one. I am very eager and anxious and I know a lot of you are too. So who else is applying for the Nursing program at St. Pete College for the spring?

A little bit about me. I have a BS in Psych and returning for nursing. I have all my prereqs completed and have a 3.66 GPA.. I have A's in all my sciences except Mirco Lab I have a B. I am super nervous about my GPA knowing that many others have better GPAs. I am holding out hope that other people will apply to other programs. Also historically the Spring is less competitive. I am hoping to get in for the night classes. The application opens on July 1st so we can apply in 3 days!!! Then wait for what will feel like forever. The suspense is already killing me.

Where are the rest of the SPC Nursing hopefuls? Sound off... 3..2..1.. GO!

Hey there. I am applying for the Spring 2018 term. I have finished all the required pre reqs with a 3.63 program GPA. I do wonder what other schools students are applying for and if SPC is their first choice? I heard that the lowest GPA in Spring 2017 was around a 3.4, so I'm hoping this is a common trend. I am super excited to apply and anxious to get through these up coming months.

Hi Guys,

It's great to see that someone started a forum for Spring 2018 applicants!! I too am applying for the spring semester but currently finishing Micro this summer. If all goes to plan, I should end with A's in both lecture and lab making my Gen/Core/Prerequisite GPA a 3.9 with all required credits completed. As both of you stated, the spring semester historically has lower GPA's per applicant compared to the fall. The only thing that I feel should be mentioned is 3.4-3.6 GPA does put you on the ??? cutoff line; however, if your AP 1, AP 2, and Micro grades are A's that should improve your chances significantly.

Best of Luck!!

That is what I am thinking to futMurse. I feel like I might be an alternate. I just have to hope all the over achievers were accepted into the Fall term. Were you interested in the day or night program?

I think you will be fine..but it will be close either way. Just keep that head up by thinking positive and it will work out. Like you said let's hope all those overachievers applied for this fall and got in!!l LOL

In response to your question about day or night program I would prefer night because I could graduate early but because I have kids the day program will be better for my schedule. However, knowing how I operate I will probably make the decision last minute. 😜

Hi everyone! So the wait begins... 119 days until November 1st- yikes! Lol but lets all stay positive! I have all admission course requirements completed and a 3.66 gpa. Good luck everyone!

Yes indeed. Let's stay positive. Here is some good news (maybe). My SPC advisor told me what the lowest GPA's that were accepted in the previous years for the spring. Here they go:

Spring 2014: 3.375

Spring 2015: 3.533

Spring 2016: 3.422

Spring 2017: 3.522

Those were the absolute lowest and of course every applicant pool is different but it gives me hope us 3.6 peeps will get in. :) Keep us update on here if you hear anything worth sharing.

That's cool your advisor did that. If that trend continues I think you will be good to go!!

IMO it doesn't take a 4.0 student to be a good nurse, it's knowing what you want and taking the necessary steps to make that goal a reality. Being a great nurse requires exceptional critical thinking skills combined with smarts. Honestly, some people don't have that even though they have amazing grades.

With that being said, I wish nothing but the best for everybody. I hope everybody on this board gets excepted so we can battle through Nursing school together!!!

Thanks for starting this post, Sungray; and thanks for those GPA figures! I too am looking to apply for this upcoming spring semester with SPC. I'm brand new to this field and have been primarily attending courses online, so it's encouraging to encounter others that are on the same academic path, sharing info here. I have everything finished up besides Stats, which I'll be taking this fall. Right now I'm sitting at a 4.0, but that will likely change due to Micro, which I'll be finishing up within the next two weeks or so. Fingers crossed for all of us! Like futMurse and mskye said; positive thinking!!! :) Best of luck to everyone!

Hi TangoFoxtrot, yes I am in the same situation as you. I am switching careers. First and foremost congrats on that 4.0!! That's a big deal. Will your grade for stats be posted before the end of the application period? I spoke to an adviser who told me that they will only consider grades that post before the application deadline- Sept 15th and notification goes out Nov 1st. So by all means do your own research and let me know if you are told something different. But my understanding is if that class doesn't end until the end of the semester then that class won't be counted toward your admission. Not to deliver bad news but my friend is in the same situation. She hoped to apply for the spring but she is not taking Micro until the fall and the class ends in December, but you do have a good GPA so still apply :) Good luck!!!

That's awesome! Congrats to you on the career change; I know it's a BIG decision and a scary leap to make, so props to you!

Unfortunately my grade for stats will NOT be posted prior to the application period, so I will be applying without that factored in. When I spoke with the adviser, she suggested that I apply, even if I was "short" by my stats class. She seemed to indicate that there was still a SMALL chance that I could get accepted, as it wasn't one of the "major" classes, like A&P or Micro. It does seem, however, from the bit of "stalking" I've done on the forum posts for prior admission periods, that some individuals have still been accepted or been given "alternate" positions, even with Micro missing - so your friend might want to look into the possibility of applying, if she's still interested for Spring! Best of luck to you, and to your friend! And thanks again for starting the thread!

Nice! Yes that is exactly correct. I have seen the same. 4.0 students getting accepted with a class pending and it seems that alternates have a good chance of getting in too. So from the outside I think you definitely have a shot. :) Thanks for sharing your story with us.
