Hello everyone,
I haven't seen a Spring 2018 thread started for SPC nursing hopefuls so I decided to start one. I am very eager and anxious and I know a lot of you are too. So who else is applying for the Nursing program at St. Pete College for the spring?
A little bit about me. I have a BS in Psych and returning for nursing. I have all my prereqs completed and have a 3.66 GPA.. I have A's in all my sciences except Mirco Lab I have a B. I am super nervous about my GPA knowing that many others have better GPAs. I am holding out hope that other people will apply to other programs. Also historically the Spring is less competitive. I am hoping to get in for the night classes. The application opens on July 1st so we can apply in 3 days!!! Then wait for what will feel like forever. The suspense is already killing me.
Where are the rest of the SPC Nursing hopefuls? Sound off... 3..2..1.. GO!
Hey everyone! I am at HCC now finishing up my prereqs and have a few questions (will be applying at a few schools in the area)
1. What was the cut-off GPA this past spring? Is our TEAS score accounted for when applying, or is it just a check mark for what we have to complete??
2. What hospitals do we have to choose from for clinical sites?
3. What classes are calculated in our GPA for acceptance? is it all of the ones listed on here GPA Calculator or is it just the pre entry requirements??
thanks!!
Who knows when we find out which clinical site we are going to get, at orientation? My top 3(since VA is only days) were:Madonna Ptak Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center (Tue & Wed 1 - 11pm)
Northside Hospital (Tue & Wed 1 - 11pm)
Health South Rehabilitation Hospital (Tue & Wed 1 - 11pm)
How did that work out for you? That is what I am thinking of doing too, for Fall 2018...Any word on what the experience is at each one of those sites?
Hey there Spring 2018 Team :)
I have finished all the pre-reqs required, pinelles county resident, and nervous as all can be applying with my 3.667.
I wish everyone the best in this nerve racking time. For the summer Menard peeps, I hope we get to see each other, our time flew by to quick
How did you like Nursing 1 at SPC, and who did you have as an instructor? I am beginning this August and I'm so anxious I don't know what to do with myself. Is there anything you can think of that might help me prepare for what I'm about to experience? Anything you wish you would have known before you started that might have helped you? I thank you in advance for any feedback you can give.
Hello ?
I am just finishing up level III for this summer. I will honestly say that level I was the most difficult level for me. Everything was completely new to me. I didn’t know what ambulate meant or what hypokalemia was and I didn’t know a single lab value. I didn’t understand why they made us take ATI practice exams on material we had never covered and the concept of care plans eluded me. You also have the most check offs in level I. The thing that got me through was my clinical group. We laughed and cried together and helped each other. They are my closest friends and I couldn’t imagine going through this without them.
There is really nothing you can do to prepare. Just enjoy your time now and get ready to study like you’ve never studied before! It took me a while to find a way to study that worked for me but it also depends on how the instructors teach.
Just breathe! You will be fine! There is always someone there to help.
Hello Future Nurse in the making , congrats on getting accepted. Some advice I will give you is do not become so overwhelmed that you over think and stress yourself. Take everything one day at a time. Turn In all assignments on time. And the first semester will be tough (because everything is so new) but hang in there. You may not like your grades for the first exam but hang in there. Use every resource. Personally I used the workbook that came with the fundamentals book and that helped me understand the full chapter. Read the book! Break up the pages into sections for example, read 15 pages b4 class and 15 after... just find a way to get it done! If you have any more questions I don’t mind answering them. Good luck!
D As someone who has no previous healthcare experience my first semester was (yikes) terrible! If I had known what I do now I would say, take lectures with a grain of salt (take notes here and there), but..do almost all of the reading ( I know so much!), skip what is not 100% necessary (time management!!) and take advantage of the tutors they helped me bring grades up from Cs to As! Also use supplemental workbooks that go with the books!

Is it intense? Is it something a 21 year old can manage?
