Hello everyone,
I haven't seen a Spring 2018 thread started for SPC nursing hopefuls so I decided to start one. I am very eager and anxious and I know a lot of you are too. So who else is applying for the Nursing program at St. Pete College for the spring?
A little bit about me. I have a BS in Psych and returning for nursing. I have all my prereqs completed and have a 3.66 GPA.. I have A's in all my sciences except Mirco Lab I have a B. I am super nervous about my GPA knowing that many others have better GPAs. I am holding out hope that other people will apply to other programs. Also historically the Spring is less competitive. I am hoping to get in for the night classes. The application opens on July 1st so we can apply in 3 days!!! Then wait for what will feel like forever. The suspense is already killing me.
Where are the rest of the SPC Nursing hopefuls? Sound off... 3..2..1.. GO!
... anyone dying yet? Felling like you want to? So far in the weeds that you forgot what normal grass looks like?
Don't worry you're DEFINITELY not alone!
There are some of us level 2's (and higher) still lurking on here. Ask away and we'll help! If you're shy, PM instead.
We survived Level 1... you will to!!

I feel like I don't even know where to start studying, so many things being thrown at us. I don't want to wait until last minute to study/start assignments but I don't know which book to look at first!
Do the objectives in you theory and lab guides. Read your chapters that are assigned. For practice questions do the questions in the back of each chapter and get the fundamentals success book from amazon/bookstore. Even ati will give you good practice!! Ati has a mobile app called RN Mentor (its red and has an outline of a rn tunic on it) for questions on the go. In elvisier, there is even more practice questions!!
As far as your well elder/ipa/care plans don't wait till last minute. Do a little bit every day and you'll be done before due date.
For math do 2 - 5 questions per day and you'll be all set! Visit DosageHelp.com - Helping Nursing Students Learn Dosage Calculations It gives many many question. You can even sign up for its question of the day! Know that there are a few that you won't know - that's ok skip them and do the ones you do! Nip has extra practice ones and in the fundamentals success book there is a few more.
Let me know if this helps or if you need more direction. It seems like a lot - and it is - but it works!
I think that the fact that no one has answered yet is actually a pretty good indicator of where we're all at right now, lol. In all seriousness though, I think I speak for most of us when I say, "so far, so good". As far as actual tests/quizzes go, we've been through one lab test and one medication administration test so far. Personally, I think the most challenging part so far has been just trying to balance all of the work. None of it has been particularly "difficult" per se (so far - I'm sure that will change very quickly), but the sheer volume of the work that is expected can be overwhelming at times. It brings to mind the old adage: "How do you eat an elephant? - One bite at a time"; we're all just learning to navigate it the best we all can. Additionally - and this is strictly a personal opinion - the course is a bit disorganized for my tastes, which has lead to some frustration for me. Otherwise, overall, it's been a positive experience so far, and the teachers are kind, personable, caring, responsive, and you can tell they just want to see you succeed. There also seems to be plenty of opportunities to get help with materials if/when you need some remedial training, which is nice. All in all, it's been an exhausting, stressful, frustrating, scary, fun, exciting ride, and we've only just started!
Just to reinforce - never underestimate the impact of exposing yourself to questions! The more questions you do from various sources the better!! I know I sound like a broken record!! Sorry guys..
Sources:
- Use the questions in the back of each chapter of your text book, fundamentals success and Saunders NCLEX exam review are a couple of other great resources.
- Your ATI!! Those books are a treasure of information. If you dont understand a chapter - pull out your ATI books! The ATI website is outstanding as well. Sure we all hate it but its GREAT practice for questions. (There's even a mobile app for times where your standing in line at Walmart forever, or sitting at the doctors office). Links are here: ATI RN Mentor – NCLEX Exam Preparation on the App Store and ATI RN Mentor - NCLEX Prep - Android Apps on Google Play. It's proven that people who are comfortable with ATI do better on the NCLEX - and we ALL want to pass that right?!
- Elsevier will also have adaptive quizzes that are GREAT! Ms. Neuzil should have set you guys up with an access code. USE it.... it's really really good.
- For math use NIP (their amazing!) and you can also use DosageHelp.com - Helping Nursing Students Learn Dosage Calculations - Practice Questions. Check in your ATI books - there may also be more math practice in there.
Do I still use all these resources in Level 2 - absolutely! Let's face it, the format for the exam questions have to come from somewhere right? Why not get familiar with how things are asked and give yourself a bit of an head start - also it helps to get our baby critical thinking brains working in the right direction!
Yes I know things are rotten right now (being half way and all) and there is never enough time. Trust me, even in level 2 there is never a shortage of work to be done! But hang in there. Many before you have tackled level 1 and survived. You will too!! Feel free to reach out. We're around to help!
