SPC Nursing Fall 2018

Published

Hey Everyone!

Thought I would be the first person to start a SPC Nursing Fall 2018 thread. Even though we still have one semester left before applying, I thought I would start a thread to get the ball rolling and to see where everyone stands. If are applying for the program in Fall of 2018, please let us know the amount of credits you will have at the time of applying and what your cumulative and program GPA's are. As for me, I will have 30 of 30 credits completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a program GPA of 4.0.

Specializes in NICU RN.

Just make sure when your getting your CPR classes that it is the one for health care professionals. ;) I do believe it lasts for 2 years but I'd double check with the instructor you take it with.

If you didn't get a flu shot last year - no worries the school will let you start as long as you get the flu shots that come out this year you'll be ok. They should be out by end aug/mid September. Look for ads at Walgreen's and CVS.

I would get titres first to see what immunizations you do require before you sign yourself up for the full gamete of them. You'd be surprised what your still immune to after all these years. I'm old too and the ONLY one I had to get done was MMR.

If your an alternate - no worries. There is lots that can come into play. Mistakes within the system, people chose other schools, people don't pass their background/drug tests. We even had people drop out the first week! If your an alternate keep yourself busy (maybe take some courses to finish your AA), make an appointment with a health campus adviser to see what is what and don't forget to 100% reapply for the spring session! It's not the end of the world - it's just a little delay. In the grand scheme of life its honestly 4 months..... and that's not a long period of time at all.

I scheduled my class through inpulsecpr.com and their website says the certification is good for two years.

Thank you! I just signed up for July 7th at 9am :D

Thank you for the response. However, I was just informing others that may not know how the alternates are selected as it came as a surprise to me. Unfortunately, my situation is a little different as I'm am doing somewhat of a career change. I have a BA from USF (so nothing really to fill my time between now and the possible spring semester). I do plan to apply though. I completely agree that there is not much difference in the time frame, but I am still remaining hopeful for the Fall in the meantime. The advisor did mention all of the scenarios that you posted of students that have a seat being dropped from the program. I guess we will see!

Good advice! I plan on getting the titers done first because I do not want to have to get all those shots at once. Plus some of them you have to get multiple times. I know that I have never had a Hep B vaccination, so I'll just do the declination. I've had chicken pox twice, so I should have the immunity to those or I sure hope so. LOL!

Is the CPR class also known as BLS or is it the ACLS?

Nevermind, I figured it out. LOL!

Order Student Titers, Wellness Labs, Drug test , TB Tests, and more. – LabReqs.com

I found this site and it does the full titer panel for $150

I wasn't sure if there was anything cheaper than this.

I went to the health department yesterday and they only charge $5 for each titer and immunizations are a considerably lower price than most other places I've looked (Walgreens, Walmart, etc.). Just throwing it out there!

The minute clinic at CVS took my health insurance and the tdap booster was completely covered by my insurance. So, that was nice. I just need to find a cheap 2 step TB test. I might go through the health department for that one if they do it. Thank you for the info!
