SPC Nursing Fall 2018

Published

Hey Everyone!

Thought I would be the first person to start a SPC Nursing Fall 2018 thread. Even though we still have one semester left before applying, I thought I would start a thread to get the ball rolling and to see where everyone stands. If are applying for the program in Fall of 2018, please let us know the amount of credits you will have at the time of applying and what your cumulative and program GPA's are. As for me, I will have 30 of 30 credits completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a program GPA of 4.0.

Did not meant to post here!

Hey everyone, and congratulations to all who got admitted, and to those alternates as well! I currently have an appointment set up for fingerprint scanning, and the drug/ alcohol test.

My first question is realated to the timeline of our titers and immunizations. Do you we have to wait until after orientation to get our health examination/ physical and immunizations or should we go ahead and start them? Do we have to get the examination before/after our titers are done or does that not matter? Has anyone printed the form out and looked at the part the physician has to write information on immunizations. Does the exams and bloodwork have to be done at the same facility or Dr.'s ?

Also, are we supposed to be setting an appointment for an advisor?

For the flu shot- do we wait til the 2018 flu shot is out? What if we do not have proof of having the 2017 flu shot ?

Guys.... I just got done with my meeting at the health center and they made multiple mistakes on my application and they told me that I am no longer on the alternate list.... They offered me a seat for the Fall 2018!!!!!!!!! I am beaming with happiness!! I can not wait to see you all at orientation! Congratulations everyone!! :)

Congrats to all that got in and to those that are waiting - don't give up just yet! (some people don't pass their drug/background checks)

Now that your in get ready to RUN! Castle Branch is expensive but you will have to do it each fall. It's a necessary evil for clinical placement. Titers you can get anytime as long as its within 90 days. I would do it now as it will expire NEXT July. You don't want to be in the middle of a semester and have to run around getting titres/immunizations. If your things expire (cpr, immunizations, etc) in the middle of the semester they WILL stop you from going to clinical and that means missed days which places you at risk for failing the clinical portion of your course. No clinical = no fundamentals pass = repeat for the semester. Titers/immunization can be done inexpensively at the health department. If you need the physical there is a chiropractic school attached to the HEC that does them there inexpensively as well.

When your getting your skills kit - its the expensive one. It's a duffel bag FULL of all the things your gonna need for clinical days. Get a check off sheet of what's in it and make sure you have all your stuff. You'll have to see what glove size you are too. For gloves - DON'T go bigger. They get caught up in all things that way.

If you need more on your book line of credit to cover the books and supplies you can see the financial adviser on campus or someone once said you can do it online (I have no idea how that is done as I went in and did it)

Uniforms have to be a specific one at a specific store. Yes you CAN get away with one - if you do wash daily. I have 4 sets so I do laundry once a week.

At this point if your in your in. Start supporting your fellow class mates. The time for competition is OVER - you made it! Band together and help each other out. The first two weeks are going to be "deer in the headlights" There is SO much thrown at you in those first few days you wont know left from right. HANG IN THERE - It doesn't get easier but you will learn how to navigate and time manage and all will be fine. Don't be shy - use NIP (a lot if you have to), use ALL your resources. Above all find a little teeny bit of time for yourself. Nursing school it tough stuff - but it's SO rewarding!

Just ask if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help!

Adviser can be done at any time. I recommend Tammy Capleman, but I just went to the campus i was at that day for my summer classes and they signed off on it.

Flu shot if you have 2017 send that in but ALSO get 2018 when they come out. I believe CVS/Walgreen's has them early (In mid Aug/Sept)

Thank you, Peachez1! You're always super helpful :D

Can we start the long list of Immunizations, CPR, etc now? Or do we wait until after orientation?

I went today and scheduled my physical for a couple days after orientation, just in case there's anything they want to mention about it. I'm also going to get records of my immunizations while I'm there. I scheduled my CPR class for next week because it's valid for one or two years I believe so I think that one can be done earlier. I'm not going to do the TB test or anything like that until after orientation. I'm going to wait until after orientation to buy scrubs and things like that because I heard they have to be embroidered with SPC's logo. I did order a stethoscope already because Amazon has the Master Classic II on sale for 58% off! Hopefully that one is okay

You are on it! I wasn't sure where to go to schedule my physical or how to go about getting my immunization records. I get CPR certified through my work, so I got that down lol.

Haha! I just scheduled my physical at my doctor's office but in the email it said they have a partnership with the NUHS and they give free physicals to current SPC students and the number they gave was 341-3760. I'm not sure if that's the same as the SPC chiropractor students but I hear they do it inexpensively as well. I've been going to the same doctor's office for almost my whole life so I'm hoping they have my immunization records on file. I feel like most of the immunizations they're asking for were given as young children so maybe try to contact your old pediatrician if you can and see if they have those records. I'm not sure what to do if they can't be located but I hope they'll explain that at orientation.

Hey guys!

I would say its safe to jump on everything. The key is you don't want anything to expire while your in classes (in any of the semesters - even summer if your going through the summer session). It is a tremendous pain in the behind to renew your CPR as your trying to study for an ATI and two exams - ask me how I know :(

Immunization records may be held with the health department as well - at least the ones you had to get while you were in primary and secondary school.

For the TB test, are we required to be retested before starting the program and then get it renewed annually? Or can we have had it done a few years ago (had to get it in 2015 for USF) and then be retested next year? All those acronyms and asterisks in that section have me confused lol.
