Southwestern College ADN 2016

U.S.A. California

Hello All,

I wanted to start this thread for those fellow applicants that applied for the Southwestern Community College Fall 2016 ADN Program. Not sure If this is a little late but I have yet to receive my notification regarding being invited or not for the program. As you can probably assume, I am extremely nervous right now and have been ever since I submitted my application. I've been in contact with Martha over there and she informed me that they were currently showing attention to the Step-Up program and they should be completed by this week. After completing their portion, the remainder of the letter will be sent out.

Has any one been offered a spot in the ADN program for the fall 2016 cohort yet?

I know!! They called me today because they needed my certificate for CNA so i just emailed it to them. They said we should hear by end of this month or first week of march!

Hi guys!

I applied to SWC and San Diego city college. I just recently received my acceptance letter for San Diego city college nursing program and I am so happy and grateful and also wasn't expecting it because I had more points at swc (74pts) than at city (70pts.) However I am just curious if any of you have any background knowledge in either of the programs? Like I said I am grateful I got into at least one but I want to have the best experience possible in the nursing program so with that being said do any of you know which program is "better" in terms of good professors etc.?

I know the program is all what you make it but if anyone has any background knowledge or have friends in the programs and have heard their feedback that would be nice to know (:

Thanks!

I wonder if SWC will send you an offer as well which will you choose?

@thatperson What?! We're going to hear back that soon?? I hope so! The waiting game is so agonizing lol

Middle of March for SWC and the middle of April for Palomar

Ahh, that's what I thought brandyP. I didn't apply for Palomar as it would be about an hour drive from where I live. I just submitted my application for Grossmont. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh yeah, I made a new topic for those who applied to SWC Fall 2017 cohort. Maybe that will bring in more people who applied as well so we can compare!

hey!!! Im sorry for the late reply I just saw this! I dont even know my points for Miracosta and Palomar because they are so far for me that I didnt even bother to try to apply hahaha!!! I live in the Southbay (Chula Vista) I'm only applying to SWC and Grossmont and it looks like Im gonna have around 84-87 points for Grossmont depending if they give me those points for Financial aid need, difficult circumstances and working while completing pre-reqs... However, I havent turned in my application yet because I am waiting for my CNA certificate/license to appear in the system and/or in the mail!!! This is so ironic, and stupid and funny and sad at the same time because the only reason why I did the CNA certification so I could apply to SWC and get those 25 points at SWC and also those 5 points at Grossmont (I never planned on working as a CNA, ever!), I finished my class around mid-December and took the test (which I passed) then turns out about a month and a half later we found out that someone/somewhere "the State" (that's what my school told me) they lost some paperwork so that's why about 25 students from our CNA class didnt get our certification!!! SO ANNOYING. But I even work as a CNA, I got hired the next week of passing my certification tests! and all they took were my results showing that I passed! However, I am now even at risk of losing my job (which I don't particularly love, lol) but also not being able to get those points!!! However, I already faxed the state or whoever makes those papers (Thank God we had copies) and now Im just waiting for them to mail my thing/license or at least to have my number or certification posted at the registry!!!

I also made a thread for those that applied to MiraCosta and/or Palomar who want to talk and compare points etc.

Did you apply to SWC with a printout of your CNA schooling b/c I know you need to have the license to apply for the extra points. I hope you got them!

I believe that it is important that you choose a program that works for you. I applied to programs an hour away because I want a program that works to my strengths. Numerous students at City say that it is very disorganized, exam questions were not counted because they were either not clear or none of the students go the question correct, and they did not know what information we were responsible for. Also, City's NCLEX pass rate has gone down and is now in the 80s.

Can anyone share what they know about any other programs?
