Southwestern College ADN 2016

Published

Hello All,

I wanted to start this thread for those fellow applicants that applied for the Southwestern Community College Fall 2016 ADN Program. Not sure If this is a little late but I have yet to receive my notification regarding being invited or not for the program. As you can probably assume, I am extremely nervous right now and have been ever since I submitted my application. I've been in contact with Martha over there and she informed me that they were currently showing attention to the Step-Up program and they should be completed by this week. After completing their portion, the remainder of the letter will be sent out.

Has any one been offered a spot in the ADN program for the fall 2016 cohort yet?

Did you apply at Palomar and Mira Costa college what are you points for those schools if so? I talked to the lady when I turned in my application she said they advise to aim for mid 70's I have 72 hehe so I could make the cut there. If you get into both you will choose which one? Also Palomar won't let us know until the mid of April so if you get accepted to SWC you will have to accept then if you get into Palomar do they let you choose?

I'm also applying to MiraCosta and Palomar. I just took my TEAS and scored 88%. I'll have 85/86 points when I apply. Was it Palomar that told you mid 70s? I know last cycle for MiraCosta the points were very high and the minimum you needed to get in was 85 and the average was 89. I guess it was the highest it has ever been!

Im not sure what school I'll pick yet if I get into both. I'm leaning towards MiraCosta because of the smaller class size and it was just ranked 3rd in California for nursing programs based on the programs Nclex pass rates!

you did really well on the teas!! great job. I want to go to palomar or grossmont!!

I just turned in my miracosta apps!the secretary said i have a competitive application! i like the campus.

Thats awesome! We are in the same

point range. I took all of my pre reqs through MiraCosta and I really like the campus and the professors

@Larocquh have you applied to grossmont? what do you think is the average score there?

I didn't apply to grossmont due to missing one immunization I'm waiting on. But, someone I work with just started the program and scored 76 on the TEAS with As and Bs, work experience, health cert, etc. I'm not sure on their exact points but I know grossmont takes a lot more students per cohort. MiraCosta is harder to get into. From previous forums it's seems like high 70s-80s should give you a really good chance at a spot.

ahh I see. so intimidating. haha. When I turned in my application at Miracosta yesterday, the secretary was saying how their nursing program has gotten extremely competitive and impacted the past few cohorts. Which one is your first choice?

Hi all, I just got a call today from the department chair (she wanted me to email a document to her). She's going over my application right now, along with the other Step Up program's applicants. She told me I should be receiving my letter of acceptance/decline by the end of the month. You guys should be next! March is coming up real soon. This dreaded wait is flying by!

@leighannquismo OMGGG So exciting~!!! Omg guys i had a problem with grossmont today. So i turned in my application right, I had a positive TB skin test and normal xray. I provided them the stuff but the lady said my xray report was not official and i need that. So i called the clinic i got it from, they said they dont have my record anymore because they dont carry records for more than a year. So now i need to get an xray and idk what to do or where to get it. I made an appointment at my primary doctor and she declined my request for an xray because she hasnt seen me in more than 3 years. So they'll have me meet with a physician on feb 22 next wednesday. But I dont know if i will ave my xray that day or just meet with a doctor. IDK if i will make the deadline as the application for grossmont is on march 3rd. UGH so stressful. haha but enough about me, hows everyone doing waiting???

MiraCosta is probably going to be my first

choice if I get in! If I was able to meet the deadline for grossmont it would have been in my top as well! What about you?

Right now. palomar is actually my first choice. I have about 83 points. Do you think i can make it with that points? :( I dont think ill make it to grossmont too haha i have complications with my tb test.

Ugh that sucks! I'm sure if you explain your situation you'll find a doctor that will do the X-ray for you..... 83 points is really competitive, you are going to get in somewhere!

There were a couple spring 2017 threads on here that I followed, and someone with an 80 got into Palomar. I think I even saw some high 70s as well on other threads. It really just depends on the cohort! There was one person with 76 pts that got into Mira Costa a couple cohorts back, but the last go around you needed around 85pts, which shows how impacted it was for that cycle. I think they also send out acceptance letters in waves because not everyone takes a spot, so even if you're on the edge there is still a good chance.

At least with southwestern you'll know soon! The other programs we won't find out until April :nailbiting:
