Southwestern College ADN 2015

Published

Hi!! Just wanted to start a thread for those that applied for Southwestern College's Fall 2015 ADN Program. I'm so nervous to wait for March/April for the notices to come out. I'm a hit or miss ranking at 75 points. I'm a CNA with my Bachelor's in Health Science emphasis in Public Health from SDSU as well. Anyone else applied as well? Nervous? Hopefully this discussion keeps going =)

Hey Ednies,

Did you receive an program invite yet? I also applied to the 2016 Fall Cohort. I emailed Martha in regards of finding out the status of my application and she stated that they were focusing on the Step-Up program at the moment and should have that completed by this week (April 22, 2016) and will resume sending out program invites for the 2-year ADN program?

Hello I too am applying in Fall 2017. Yes CNA's have a great chance on getting in! The department chair praises CNA's you can check the packet its worth 25 points, she started out as a CNA and believes it to be very important stepping stone for becoming a nurse, and moving up in the field. Your going to be good, I have a 3.0 in my sciences, and currently working on my CNA, communications, and psychology this semesters I hope to have a 3.75 for the other courses I have a B in stats. Anyways keep in touch we get to apply soon =)

Hello! New to AllNurses but have been reading into the forums religiously lol. I'm applying for the 2017 LVN-RN step up program. I've been reading all your posts about the previous years general cut-off being around 75, but I was wondering if that was only for the generic 2-year program? Does anyone know what the cut-off for the LVN-RN program typically is? Also, I know that 60 students + 10 alternates are admitted for the generic 2-year, but how many LVNs get admitted into the step-up program?

& one more question, heheh, as if I haven't asked enough already. My points range from a 78-83, TEAS score 91%. Again, I'm applying for the step-up program... does anyone have any clue as to what my chances are?

SOooOOoo nervous, and hope to hear replies from some of you awesome people soon ^__^ application period ends this month!

Did you get in?

Hi brandyP,

The application period is going on until the end of this month, so it probably won't be a while until I hear back from anyone /: I'll be applying to other schools in the meantime. Hopefully I get in somewhere!

@leighannquismo OMG you have a HIGH chance of getting in. AND GREAT JOB ON TEAS!!! wow I've never heard such a high score before. I got an 80% on my first tri and took it again (because I'm applying to SDSU, CSUSM, National University) and got 89.3%. You really have a high chance of getting in, if theres not enough LVN-ADN students, usually they will put you in the same pool as Generic applicants. What are your GP and possible extra points? Language? Life experiences?

@thatperson oh my gosh, thank you!! You made me feel so much better. & great job to you as well!! :) I'm sure you'll have no problem getting in where you want. Have you applied to SWC's program, or do you plan to? & do you know how many LVN-RN students they typically admit?

I think my points will land at 78. I have a 3.7gpa for my misc. classes (eng, comm, etc.), and a 3.46gpa for my science classes. So frustrating!!! Could've had another 5 pts if I had just .04 more. :( No other languages, so no points for that. Life experiences I get 3 pts: first generation in college, work during pre-reqs, and difficult family circumstance.

May I ask yours? :) Hopefully we get in together!:laugh:

@leighannquismo I am turning in my apps on the 20th! They accept 10 I believe, but one cohort my friend told me they took in 8. It's ok if theres not enough applicants theyll put you as a generic applicant. Hopefully we both get in!! But you are an LVN so Idk how that works haha

I have 80 on teas, 3.8 Science GPA, 3.9 Misc GPA, Second language, Associate, Health Care certificate, work experience, First gen, Difficulties, Financial aid, work during pre req. I am at about 84 points. I heard if you are over 75 you are good. Did you apply to palomar yet? Are you sure your science is 3.46? Do you have associate degree or any degree?

@leighannquismo I am asking because I tried all possible grades for the three sciences and could not get a 3.46

@thatperson you are good!! That's a great place to sit for the points. :) I have no doubt you'll get in. I have not looked at Palomar; I live in northern Cali so I'm not too familiar with the programs down south. I'll check it out though! & I think my science GPA is a little funky because I took my classes at a quarter system school, so I had 3 classes of A&P & 1 class of micro. No other degrees.

I am excited for you! When is your deadline? End of the month also?

@leighannquismo for palomar its actually on the end of february! Right now i am having trouble with the TB test for southwestern, I am not sure if the chest x ray report I have for negative result will suffice I am confuse haha

@thatperson ok cool I'll check out Palomar's site :) I believe you can use the negative chest x-ray as long as it's been within the last five years. There should be a page in the physicals/immunizations forms that is about the TB tests & I think you just have to fill some info out & attach proof of the xray. You might have to get a stamp from your doctor too.

Im doing the two step PPD & it's such a hassle! Lol.
