Need some info on the Evening/Weekend program at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
How long is the program?
Can you transfer into the program?
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks.:idea::idea:

From my experience....you can transfer certain credits. But the overall admission into their nursing program is ridiculous. You must take the Pre-NLEX, A&P 1/2, and Microbiology. All of that plus your current GPA is indexed together to determine your admission. And they only accept the top 40 or so each semester. I did many of my prereqs at Southwest and transferred to Baptist College.

The program is 2 yrs in length. 4 semesters (no nursing classes in the summer). The night and weekend program begins every January. (The day program begins every August.) What previous thread said about criteria for acceptance is correct...except I there were 60 accepted in my class. The night and weekend program is more competitive than the day. The day program does offer some Sat and Sun Clinicals.
Best of luck to you

Hello everyone... I need some advice... I got accepted to Union University accelerated program in Jackson , TN, I am in the alternate list for University of Memphis. I havent gotten my answer for Southwest evening program.. I got a 121 in the NLN, 3.00 gpa, got A&P I and II and finished micro but just send my transcript so I do not think I will get those points for the ranking. I already have a bachelors in Natural Science are my chances at SWCC good?

why are you holding out for SWCC when you got accepted to union?? go to union! well, if you can afford it. not only is their program really expensive, but you also can't working at all during the 12 month program. but think about it - in 12 months you'll have your bsn as opposed to your adn in 2 years at SWCC.

Hey Glo1985 I am finishing up my prereq's and I want to know what are Union's requirements to enter there nursing program? Is it extremely hard to get or what?
Hi Shandra! It is not impossible to get into Union. I think the difference is that compared to the other schools in the memphis area they evaluate the indivudual as a whole and they dont base themselves on a simple ranking (because no offense your grades are not going to be the same if you took you classes at a Community college or at Harard.. you know what I mean?)
The deadline is July 1st each year. By that time you have to have at least 5 of your prerequisites completed out of the 7. The prerequisites are the following:
A&P I and II, Micro, General Psych, Developmental Psych, Statistics and Pathopysiology (everyone takes this class the fall semester after getting accepted). In my case I had 5 done by july 1st and took micro and patho in the fall.
The minimun GPA is a 2.8, and you need to write an essay as well. After you send that they will send you a letter saying if you are being inteviewed or not and if you need to take a test. If you get an interview you go there and take the test and get interviewed the same day. The interview is fairly relaxed, how do you deal with stress? Why do you want to become a nurse? What does an accelerated program mean to you?. I will tell you this.. it was more tedious to get into Union but at the same time the people that worked there where incredibly understanding and helpful. My class starts Jan 5th and Ends Dec 20th 2009. You go to class a lot but in the end its only one year and you are off to work and make money to pay the loans. There are 2 campuses each accepting aprox 30 something students. I am going to Jackson there is one in Germaantown but it is harder to get in, the more prerequisites you have done the better is your chance to get into germantown. I hope this is helpul! Sorry if it is too long. I am happy I made the decision I made. After all I sacrifice a year but I will graduate early and be in the working world earlier compared if I had gone to the other schools. If you are in no hurry to graduate then consider other options.
Hey Glo1985! Thanks so much for the information. Okay I really don't know anything about Union Univ. I want to attend southwest but I am applying to as many schools as possible because I know that the programs are so competitive. I emailed the admissions office to request some info and stuff. I attend northwest right now finishing up my prereq's. Do they require you to take a certain entrance exam nln, hobet, net, etc?

Has anyone been accpeted with a GPA below 3.0? Like a 2.7 or a 2.8? If you were accepted to Southwest Nursing, what was your GPA and NLN exam score? I have a 2.8 and made a 115 on the NLN and think my grades are way too low to get into southwest!! what do you think?

Thank you for your input on the Union program!! It was not too long!! It has helped me in deternining what school to look into... If there is any more info you can offer i would appreciate it!

I had a 2.7 GPA, A's in A&P 1,2 and Micro, and 144 on the NLN. I was accepted.
So jenthern, I got a A in Microbiology, B in a&p1, and a C in a&p2! I haven't taken the NLN yet! You think I need to focus on that?
