Southwest Tennessee Community College
There is positive stuff. Its an amazing program if not the best in the city. You just have to bust your butt and study hard. The problem is a lot of people just plain don't study enough. And they have kids, and work full-time or at night. Its a great program for serious students and it definitively weeds out the people who shouldn't be nurses.

Ha, yeah. Alot of people dropped foundations after seeing how hard the days in the hospital were going to be. then a lot failed foundations. Then Adult health was like the reaper. We lost the majority of our people in adh1 so far. out of 25 people who took it at the beginning of this semester I think 5 passed. so far out of the 10 we have in our class now, 3 passed the first test.

You use med- surg for ADH1 and I dunno about the OB book she was talking about getting a different one so I cant say. I dont think it will be the same as ours.

You do not get to choose your teachers. There really isn't a choice. The classes are so small everyone has the same teachers basically. They usually dont even list the nursing teachers names with the clasess. Just the times, days, etc. You dont get to choose your hospital for clinical either. Its basically luck of the draw. So hopefully you have good luck. I am about at the end of the second semester. It is a SUPER hard class. We started with 60 people in fall 09 and we now have literally 10 people moving on from the original 60 to peds and mental health (third semester class). Foundations will take a few of your classmates, but adult health two is the kicker. It is SO insanely hard. good luck to all. Think long and hard cause nursing school IS your life and you will not get to do anything BUT nursing school for the next two years.

I am in OB right now, took foundations last semester and the only way I made the grade I did was by recording class and taking the notes I could during class. Then after class,I would go home and listen to my recording and type up notes. It worked super well for me. Other ppl brought their computers to class and could type faster than they could write. It gets easier as you go through. After your first test ( which will be the easiest one all year so do well to pad your grade) you will know what to look for information wise. Good luck, you get through this you get to do OB and OB is SOOOO much fun and they are nicer to you cause youve earned their respect. Keep drudging through, its so very frustrating I know... but you can do it. Good LUCK!

I just finished my first semester at southwest and was wondering if any students already in the program have any tips to passing Adult health I. I am really nervous about Adult health I. What does adult health go over? is it ICU stuff, ER stuff? they didnt tell us. ANY info would be GREAT. Or any handme down notes!

Spring 2010 hopefuls
I just finished my first semester at southwest and everything that we needed was included in the nursing kit we ordered at orientation. They are called our "blue bags." They have our stethoscopes, bp cuffs, and lots of other stuff. I didn't have to buy anything cause everything was in the kit.

Good luck guys! I am just finishing my first semester at southwest. Remember this feeling and how hard you worked to get to this point cause when you are in the program tons of people get burned out and drop out ( we started with 60 and this week we only had about 45 left). You can do it (and make As and Bs) if you work hard and know that you are not going to do anything but study. Get in the habit to do something every single night. If you get in that rotation you will be golden. Don't get down when it gets hard. Good luck y'all! Welcome to the program. P.S. get a printer cause they make you print EVERYTHING (no handouts) and get yourself a good daily calendar to write everything down (lots of dates and things to remember that they only say once and will not repeat) GOOD LUCK!!

How important is that NLN? Southwest Tn Comm.
I made only a 115 and had about the same grades as you if not a little lower and will start on Monday! You should be good to go!! Don't let it totally overwhelm you. Save that for when you get in!! It all really depends on who applies with you. If you apply with people who have really high grades, then it might be harder, and vice versa. When I was applying I called the nursing department and they helped me figure out my "index" score and let me know what the cut off index score was for the previous class accepted. That can give you a good idea on how competitive you are as an applicant.

Which hospital were your clinicals at?! I am so excited to start! ALSO! I know that we go to the simulation labs for the first few weeks, well during those weeks do we have to be there at like 6:30? Cause I know clinicals are scheduled to start at like 6:30.

Oh so you passed without trouble.. I think they just really scared the crap out of us acting like no one makes higher than a C and that you can just expect to make barely passing on every exam. If you don't mind me asking, What was your final grade in foundations?

So some people actually get As in foundations, well that makes me feel alot better. so for the first 6 weeks, what do you do on your clinical day? do you go to the labs and practice there?

It was intimidating, but kinda exciting. I am totally ready to start clinical. I am super super nervous about foundations. Does ANYONE get As in foundations? is that even possible? Some of the teachers seemed like super hard, but then the Childbearing teachers seemed really nice.
