Has anybody heard something about working in the South Nassau Communities Hospital? I have an offer from dilysis of this center, so any comments or rumors are very wellcomed!
I think that SNCH is nice . I worked as an aide in maternity till I graduated this pass May. I wanted to stay there but the pay is really not good. I know it`s not about money, but I have loans. I decicded to go to St. Francis in Roslyn . They have loan forgiveness. They pay off your loans that you got from school. I also have a great interest in cardiology and it is the best Heart hospital in LI

I was althinking about ST. Francis after I graduate. Do they only offer the loan forgiveness program to BSN grads?
Thanks for any info.
They still require new grads to get that obligatory first year of med/surg experience before applying to their ED fellowship. So even though I am there now - I have to leave for a year in order to come back as a nurse. As much as I hated the thought of that at first - it occured to me that I "won't know JACK" upon graduation. So It will be helpful I suppose...
We'll see...
I heard that Madalyn, the Nurse Educator went to your ED. If so, talk to her about going directly into the ED after graduation. She ran a very good new grad ED program at Winthrop and would certainly advocate on your behalf.
I was persistent. I called recruitment every other week. I wasn't pushy, I simply re-emphasized my eagerness to become part of the SNCH team!! LOL It must've worked - I've been there since October!
babynursingrn: could a new grad potentially be considered for postpartum? I LOVE this area! My mother/baby clinical experience last semester blew me away! (I currently work in the ER.)
a1mom: Good luck with your quest to become a SNCH employee!!!
I would check the website - it's pretty accurate:
My supervisor has taken 3 new grads since I have been there (2 years). I was the first new grad they ever hired right out of nursing school, and I guess after that went rather well, they decided to hire another 6 months after me, and one recently.
There website is very accurate, but I don't know if they will take new grads right now, you would have to get in touch with nurse recruitment. I actually knew a nurse in L&D while I was going to school and that's how I got my foot in the door. I LOVE it! And I am so grateful for getting the chance to be here, even if the money isn't so good. It's 8 minutes from my house, you couldn't ask for a better supervisor, only downfall is nights.
NOBODY wants to work nights, and we need the help, so if you get in touch with nurse recruitment and tell them you are willing to work nights, maybe they will get you in. Let me know how it goes.
As for maternity, I don't know what the requirements are. I really only go there to bring a baby over or a patient after they deliver, and they have a different supervisor. Sorry.

I will more than likely be moving to the NY area when I graduate. What are everyone's thoughts on this hospital? How far is it from the city? How is Oceanside itself? What is the pay scale like for new grads? Any information would be much appreciated :)
Thanks !
