Well I don't know about working there, but I did have my daughter there 2 yrs ago. It's a beautiful hospital, and the nurses there were extremely pleasant, and I completely enjoyed my time there. It's a shame my new OB doesn't deliver there as I'm expecting my little boy to arrive shortly.
Congratulations on the offer :)

Ponchie ...
I am a labor and delivery nurse there. Who was your doctor? And to the first poster regarding how the hospital is, give me your email address and I will email you privately.

My doctor was Janice Asencio, but she relocated to Boston.
But I do love my new doctor, just not the new hospital I have to deliver at.
I LOVED Dr. Ascensio. She moved to Pennsylvania. Last time I saw her she had just had her second baby and was doing a delivery at the hospital 4 days after. She was crazy like that.
Are you a nurse?

Lol no not yet... I'm going to start nursing school in the Fall... Maybe you can help me get an externship in Summer 09 with L&D at South Nassau lol...
She delivered me in October and then I think she had her baby sometime in the next month or so. I loved her too. I felt like she was genuine and really cared about me and my baby. I was so sad to see her go. Shes one of the reasons (along with you nurses there) why I want to go into L&D nursing. But I guess I'll see if I really like it after my clinicals lol
Where will you be going to school? Are you starting from scratch, or returning to get another degree? This is my 2nd career, I ONLY wanted to do L&D, and I LOVE it. I am so happy doing what I do.
What doctor's do you go to now?

I currently hold a BS in another field, so I'm starting from scratch goin for my ADN first at Saint Vincents Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing.
I stayed with Dr. Asencios office and now have Dr. Udele Taylor-Randall who took over the practice. But she only delivers at LIJ. I'm going to miss the private room ... the space at South Nassau is incredible!

I work at SNCH as well - in the ER. It's a nice hospital. I graduate from Nursing school this December and I am seriously considering staying aboard...
Recruitment would be happy to hear this of course - I just wish they would be a little more competitive with the pay scale. I have been comparing salaries from other LI hospitals and SNCH does fall on the low side. What keeps Nurses there? I suppose it is the family-like environment, location etc... I am well aware that salary shouldn't be the sole reason for making a decision - but I do have student loans to repay and Long Island isn't the cheapest place to live.
I constantly recommend SNCH to my classmates.

wow u didnt graduate yet and ur in the ER? nice.
They still require new grads to get that obligatory first year of med/surg experience before applying to their ED fellowship. So even though I am there now - I have to leave for a year in order to come back as a nurse.
As much as I hated the thought of that at first - it occured to me that I "won't know JACK" upon graduation. So It will be helpful I suppose...
We'll see...
that year is going to go by SOOO fast, i LOVE the ER. Congrats! Good luck!
