Every so often I'll hear lyrics on songs on the radio that remind me of nursing... Here's a couple of examples I've heard on the radio recently, unfortunately I can't remember who sings either of 'em...:monkeydance:
"I am barely breathing, and I can't find the air..."
"I have become, comfortably numb..."
Anyone got any more?
"Innocent", by Our Lady Peace:
Pink, "Like a Pill"Tina's losing faith in what she knowsHates her music
Hates all of her clothes
Thinks of surgery and a new nose
Every calorie is a war
And while she wishes she was a dancer
And that she'd never heard of cancer
She wishes God would give her some answers
And make her feel beautiful
I remember feeling low
And I remember losing hope
And I remember all the feelings and the day they stopped
Switchfoot, "Enough to Let Me Go"I can't stay on your life support, there's ashortage in the switch,
I can't stay on your morphine, cause its making me
itch
I said I tried to call the nurse again but she´s
being a little *****,
I think I'll get outta here, where I can
Run just as fast as I can
To the middle of nowhere
To the middle of my frustrated fears
And I swear you're just like a pill
Stead of makin' me better, you keep makin' me
ill
You keep makin' me ill
This song is truly beautiful, and reminds me of all of the patient's familys we talk to encouraging them to withdraw care. Do you love them enough to let them go? Don't you realize they're better off away from here? Don't you get that neither we, nor you ultimately control their breathes?Breathe it in and let it goEvery breath you take is not yours to own
It's not yours to hold
Do you love me enough to let me go?
Do you love me enough to let me go?
Do you love me enough to let me go? (yea)
To let me follow through
To let me fall for you, my love
Do you love me enough to let me go?
And for the nightshifters, "This Afternoon" by Nickelback:
Except I change 6 in the morning to 7:30 in the morning.'Cause we'll be doing this til 6 in the morning, nothing wrong with going all night long.
Tim McGraw, "Live Like You Were Dying"
He said I was in my early forties, with a lot of life before meAnd one moment came that stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days, looking at the x-rays
Talking bout' the options and talking bout' sweet times.
I asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end
How's it hit 'cha when you get that kind of news?
Man what did ya do?
:monkeydance: I am the unit DJ. I choose all the music that we listen to at night and I have been compiling a list of nursing related songs. So far I have a few and I need more suggestions. (My iPod is 30 gigs so help me out).....Wow, what an impressive list! Your coworkers must be delighted to have you as the unit DJ. I have to download all these songs.
I'd like to add 2 of my favorites: Coldplay's "Fix you": lights will guide... you home, and I will try to... fix you (the start of a surgery), and "Yellow": your skin... your skin and bones, turn into something beautiful... for you i bleed myself dry (organ and blood donor)
You know guys i seen this thread and i had to post. Let me tell you the story behind it and you tell me if it fits the thread. I was working nightshift at this nursing home. It was really still that night. My aids were doing there thing and everyone was quiet. On the walls in front of the residents room is a plack from the family members telling the history of their loved one What they did for a living. If they were in the war. When they got married how many kids grandchildren and so on. Well one night this song came on the radio from a residents room. Now I'm a guy and i really don't care for country music I'll listen to it if its on more like a white noise type thing. I almost cried listening to that song and reading some of the things people wrote. And the song was Allen Jackson's Remember When. Here's the words
Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when
Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when
Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when
Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when
I just thought i would post this makes me think of nursing very much. These are my thoughts use them as you wish
"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses.... I guess I have been feeling a little stressed at work these days.
Welcome to the jungle
We've got fun 'n' games
We got everything you want
Honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find
Whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey
We got your disease
[CHORUS:]
Welcome to the jungle
We take it day by day
If you want it you're gonna bleed
But it's the price you pay
And you're a very sexy girl
That's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights
But you won't get them for free
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
I, I wanna hear you scream
Welcome to the jungle
It gets worse here everyday
Ya learn ta live like an animal
In the jungle where we play
If you got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me
[CHORUS]
And when you're high you never
Ever want to come down, so down,
So down, so down, so dooooowwwwwn
YEAH yeah yeah

"Can't get the stink off
He's been hanging round for days
Comes like a comet
Suckered you but not your friends
One day he'll get to you
Teach you how to be a holy cow
You do it to yourself you do
And that's what really hurts is
You do it to yourself just you
You and no-one else
You do it to yourself
You do it to yourself"
