Somehow I ended up being in-charge of picking out the songs that we will use during graduation, esp when we show slides of our years in nursing school. I have asked ideas from fellow classmates but so far I have received a total of 5 songs.
Any ideas anyone? Pls. don't recommend that Vit C song. We all at least agreed not to play that one.

We used "Through the Years" - Kenny Rogers. And I think there are various covers of it as well. Everyone cried, if that's what you're going for. :)

They played Pachabel's Canon in D for our processional followed another classical piece that I can't remember offhand. The committee in charge decided against modern or anything with lyrics. I guess they were aiming for subtle and classy?
I never thought to ask because they didn't play anything during rehearsal and none of us (except those on the committee) even knew what was going to be played. And we never had a slideshow or anything cool like that. They also played classical when we lit each others candles.
An odd thing just occurred to me - I've never been to anyone else's nursing graduation and wondered if everybody's class does the candle lighting thing? The auditorium lights were off and the Dean lit the first nurses candle (we all had little ceramic Aladdin-type candle holders) and then she turned and lit the nurse next to hers and so on thru all three rows of us until the whole stage was lit up by us. My sister said it awesome from the audience POV. Not to hijack the thread, but I suddenly wondered if all graduating classes did that.
Congrats on graduation! \O/ \O/

At my HS graduation the principal played "Break On Through To The Other Side" because she didn't like our original pick, "Fight Song"
Personally, I hated both of them. I told everybody that *my* song was "Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn.

Oh boy! Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd? Candle in the Wind by Elton John? Sympathy for the Devil by The Stones? Thus Spake Zarathustra? Bolero? Mi Tierra by Gloria Estefan? Schools out by Alice Cooper? I'd do a medley from some of these, but I guess I'm not helping you very much. Wishing you and your class long happy careers.

Ummm.... I teach at a middle school and have helped pick songs for 8th grade recognition.... not quite the same, but maybe some of these will sound good to you: "For Good" from the musical Wicked; "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent; 100 Years by Five for Fighting; I Hope You Dance; Footprints in the Sand by Leona Lewis; Umbrella by Rhianna (OK - that one may be a stretch, but it's a fun song, no?); Life is a Highway
Congratulations to you, and I hope this project turns out well for you! Let us know what songs you use!

Congratulations on graduating!!!
For some reason at our pinning they played the songs DURING the ceremony when we went up to get pinned and had our name called..No one could hear our names because the students running the music couldn't figure out how to turn it down..It was BAD!
However as soon as I went up Journey's Don't Stop Believing started playing and as that is one of my favorite songs I didn't mind that as much =)

At my high school graduation, they played "Time of Your Life" by Green Day. It still makes me tear up a little when I hear it on the radio.

We sang an adulterated version of "Memories" by Barbra Striesand. Not a dry eye anywhere. I'm sure there are others!

Got to have some Queen in there "We Are The Champions", for the professors "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler will make em all cry, "Good Riddance" by Green Day is probably my favorite for the climax; just something about that song is so connected to the closing of something in time. I'll also mention "Lazy Shades OF Winter" should be included in any respectable graduation program. A few people have sung it; the Bangels were the most recent I believe but it's a Simon and Garfunkel original. OK I'll stop for now.
