Solve the retrogression NOW or NEVER. ACT NOW or let retrogression continue for ever.

To all nurses especially US nurses,

Please call your senators for an amemndment favoring unlimited Schedule A visas. This is extremely important because CIR debate in Senate will continue only for few more days. Out of 108 amendments on the senate floor there is not even a single one favoring Shedule A applicants. Schedule A immigration does not affect US labour market in any way since these are shortage occupations. Meet, call, fax. webfax the senators/senators office immediately. Let your friends and relatives also follow the same. Please visit the following websites for further information. Talking points and how to contact the senators are all included in the links. Its the time to DO or DIE. Otherwise the retrogression will last for ever. Please keep this post on the top always.

MCSE,

Please note that the OP addressed for support from US NURSES. As I am one, then is appropriate for us to respond.

And International nurses often post in the various states' forums, requesting information or commenting on their perceptions of conditions in those areas.

The legislation that the OP refers to involves legislation that my congressmen representing my interests will vote on. If they vote in a manner that harms patient care and nursing, then I hold some responsibility for the wrong.

If a foreign or nativebourne nurse is poorly treated, because inadequate protections afforded them. Or if they are not adequately paid because of a large influx of unrestricted immigration or bad contracts...because legislation that MY congressmen permitted....I, as a citizen bear some responsibility.

Some of us take the responsibility of protecting conditions for ALL nurses, seriously.

Congressmen often receiving support from business groups that are VERY interested in decreasing labor costs. Much monetary support comes from hospital PACs, that seek an abundance of employees, so they can pay less.

The OP needs to understand that there are a lot of things involved with this bill that are harmful to nurses conditions in this country - immigrant and nativebourne. Thus many US nurses that are well aware that hospitals have created the "so-called shortage" are not going to support this. Many immigrant nurses, familiar with former abuses of nurses by restrictive contracts and unscrupulous employers, also do not support this.

One does not have to like these reasons. But we live here and have seen abuses of the system by both employers and immigrants. We know about the real causes of the "so-called" shortage, because have lived them and still live with them. And seek better solutions that are fair to all nurses and help patients.

I am actually an American-born nurse, raised in the US; but have lived other places. I am very well aware of the concerns that many of you have to work in the US, no matter what. But there are many issues that many of us have with what is actually being included in the CIR. Even spent the day today as the only US born nurse, and the rest were born overseas, and have been US citizens for years now, and not one wants to see the CIR pass the way that it is. When you are over here paying taxes, you see things in a different light, and have very different views on the subject.

I love having foreign nurses to work with, but I do take very strong issue with those that went into nursing as a quick way to get to the US and get a green card; and they could care less about nursing or any part of it. Those are the ones that I do not want to see come to the US. I want those that became nurses when it was not fashionable to do so because they really wanted to do it. I really do not think that this is too much to ask of anyone.

Heaven forbid that I ever get ill, but I want a nurse that really loves what they do and knows what they are doing. No matter where they are from.

This is where many of us are coming from.

We are definitely not against foreign nurses, but are against these crazy rumors that are being spread as the truth in other countries by agencies that are trying to cash in on things and sell you to the highest bidder. We are all very concerned by what we have been seeing lately.

you're right about some people going into nursing just for the green card.

a student's friend asked me about the retrogression, and how to get to the us.

i gave my advice, but noticed that she was not interested in how nursing is practiced in the us, only on how she can get her green card in the fastest possible way.

finally i told her that with that attitude, she might not even finish her orientation in any us hospital, that she might not be able to work long as a nurse in the us.

she said she only wanted to get a us visa.

i was shocked, and in a bad way.

i hope the uscis can start weeding out these people.

with that bad attitude, they can easily kill people.

i think you guys are in trouble ( or maybe not ) . i can see lots of things happening in your country , i mean in nursing business. such as blogs posting actual nclex exam question , compromised pt exam and fake nurses (i.e like your student's friend ). but i'm sure those are minorities. using lie detector machine when doing visa interview would be best solution to overcome this problem.

Have you been to the US? Please stop being judgmental! Mind you own business! If you do not like US, why would bother trying to come here? Stay where you are now, nobody will want to invite you to US to be a nurse here!

Somebody must be funny thinking this way.

It would be best if all go back to discussing the topic that the OP has presented.

Often written English does not always express what one is actually trying to communicate, well. I believe that there some miscommunication between posters here, due to communicating in english, by posters that are not as fluent in it.
