Social Media Silences Conservatives?

Updated:   Published

Quote

President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened that Republicans will try to close down social media platforms a day after Twitter, for the first time, added a fact check to two of his tweets, ones concerning his unsubstantiated claims about widespread mail-in voting fraud.

Trump, in a tweet not specifically naming any platforms, said that, "Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservative voices."

What do you think? Is Twitter right?

It really adds so much to have the ASL translation so prominent, in my opinion.

I agree, @toomuchbaloney

Trumps tweet was an opinion. It shouldn't have been tagged with a warning. I may not agree with what he says/tweets but I will defend his right to say it.

By selectively "fact checking" tweets, deleting users who say things they disagree with or shadow ban users Twitter is editorialized. And other forms of media (tv, radio, newspaper) have regulations on what they can say and do. Why should social media be any different?

Also, Twitter doesn't fact check the leaders of Iran or North Korea. But tell me again how they're un-biased.

Was the tweet deleted? Was Trump deleted? What, exactly, is your problem with readers being encouraged to check the veracity of potentially dangerous claims?

Trumps opinion was tagged with a "fact check" warning, not deleted. His opinion!

While the leaders of Iran and North Korea are allowed to spew lies and propaganda with no fact-checking. How can you not see the issue there?!

Why should I not fact check his opinion? Are you saying that it’s desirable for people to agree or disagree with an opinion without asking questions or doing their own critical thinking? How is that not silencing those who would challenge Trump? How you not see the issue here? Citizens not being allowed to question the president ... I would think the free-speech warriors would have a better grip on the constitutional Issues.

ETA: as for the leaders of Iran or North Korea ... they are not my government. Trump is. In my opinion, what they are allowed to do on social media is not relevant to this discussion.

There's no evidence that these complaints are coming from free speech warriors. You pulled the curtain back to reveal that the concern is only about "conservative" speech and that isn't even really accurate. THIS whine in time is specifically about Trump's speech and his right to do or say whatever he wants without accountability or limit.

By free-speech warriors, I’m referring to those who use the principle to justify disrespect, verbal violence and flat out lying and manipulation. You know ... the ones who brag about being “politically incorrect”. (Kind of a riff on SJWs)

Twitter is a private company. I would prefer that he simply be disallowed to post on the platform. He claims to be very wealthy (but we have NO information about to whom or for what amount he owes to his creditors). If he is so wealthy, he can pay for his own media to extend his propoganda machine. Jack Dorsey, take my president.....please! He doesn't have Fox up his rear end any more (at least in the news department). If he is successful in purchasing OAN, he will have full control over the content to spew whatever tossed salad and scrambled eggs come out of his mouth. It's unbecoming to our country to have others all over the world see how low we have sunk. John Stossel? Who could possibly take seriously a man who covers his hair and moustache in black shoe polish? Just makes me want to rip my eyes out. Trump makes me want to rip my ears off.

The only thing I'm shocked about is you keep saying Trump is censored when he isn't.

Where did I say Trump was censored? I went back and looked at this thread and I never said that. I said censorship is bad whether it comes from trump or other places.

Perhaps she should have said “implied” that trump is being censored. An easy assumption to make, since the OP cited an article about his executive order on social media and all/most of your posts mention actual censorship. Which, btw, has not happened, as far as I know.
