So . . .is nursing your final stop?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm wondering what everyone's goals are. Are you just going for an RN, BSN, MS or is your ultimate goal something a little different?

Personally I want to work as an RN for a while and if I like the healthcare profession I'll be going for NP or PA degree. So nursing is just a foot in the door for me. Anyone else?

This is why I LOVE LOVE LOVE allnurses.com! Everyone here has such high goals and aspirations for themselves. It's great to see what everyone has in mind and keeps everything in perspective when things get tough (and they definately do!)

Specializes in LTC,Med surg-Telemetry,alzheimers,home h.

I started as an LVN/LPN, now am ADN-RN, Going for BSN,then hopefully CNP, if my brain will be willing then onto Phd.

Specializes in None.

Well first I want to get my BSN, then take a year or two off to work and gain experience, my brain is in definite need of it! Then on to grad school. Im not sure if I will pursue and MSN or obtain an administration degree, but we shall see! PhD is not something I am all that keen on doing, lol

Right now I am working on my BSN and then I hope to move on to CRNA or ACNP.

I started out with a bachelor's in psych, realized it wouldn't get me anywhere, so went back to school. I am a diploma RN. I am now working on a master's in health administration. I am 41, but I still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I am almost done with my masters, but I am not very happy working in management right now. I miss the patient interaction, and the responsibilities of management can be overwhelming at times.

I'm currently pursusing my BSN and will be done in May 2009. Once I'm done with that, I think I'm going to work in the hospital for atleast a year in either the OR, ER, or ICU. While doing Patho, the cardiovascular system really interested me, so I may become a Cardiac Rehab nurse. Oh, decisions, decisions. I really like Physc, so I will go on to grad school (it's a toss up between CRNA and NP). But I don't want to stop at my BSN. I will definately keep going.

I will be starting an accelerated BSN program in May and my goal is to gain experience as a nurse for a few years and then probably pursue either a PA or NP degree. Good luck everyone!

Last stop? Nope. I''m much to restless for that. :lol2: My nursing degree is my "seed".

I want to pursue either Phds in Physiology and Pharmacology or get my DO/MD.

Either way I plan on going into nurse education, public health and healthcare reform in developing countries as well own a multi-billion dollar company.

NURSE POWER!

Specializes in Still a medic at heart but ICU, M/S, SVU.

I have always wanted to get involved in JCAHO....or simply "Joint Commission" as they call themselves now. The military drilled it all in my head so intensely that I've come to love it. Strange...I know.

Specializes in Surgical/Trauma ICU.

I want to get my BSN and work at a hospital for a few years and whenever my heart desires I'll go to grad school to get my MSN so I can teach part time and work in a hospital as well. Ph.D... possibly, but only for a more advanced teaching degree. Don't know what specialty yet.. I've got some time before I have to decide.. :wink2:

I'm not really feelin' the NP postion. Maybe I'll change my mind, we'll see.

I'm too far along in life to have many ambitions. My ultimate goal is to teach when I can't keep up with day to day nursing anymore. Nursing is really a second career for me so my current stopping point is probably the RN license with or without a BSN. I don't see going any further. Right now I'm at a detour as I was due to get the BSN back in 94, the last century! Already a lifetime ago! Uh. On that thought I think I'll get some rest. It's a depressing thought.:(

I'll be (all fingers crossed) finishing my BSN in the spring of '12 (dear heavens that seems far away!). It's actually quicker around here due to waiting lists and such to get my BSN instead of my ADN as I already have some pre-reqs out of the way from my first AA degree in Business.

After that I plan on working 2 years or so (Hopefully in L&D) to try and get some expenses under control. Then i'm on to become a midwife, hopefully in an OB/Midwife private practice.

THat's where I plan on spending the next 15 years or so before moving into some kind of teaching or administration role...unless I just love the midwife role too much to give it up and my body can still handle it.
