skipping class, a hard habit to break

LOL, I skipped classes BIG TIME when I went to college for my first degree. Now that I'm in nursing school I go to over 90% of my classes (mostly because they often take attendance). I found that when I got to nursing school, some classes I could definitely skip, while others (pharm and adult health) were certainly not wise to skip out on. And clinicals you can't miss at all otherwise you have to make them up. My grades have improved since I started attending class.....

I don't skip class for this reason. I'm paying for it myself. The second semester during my pre-reqs, I was taking psychology. The regular professor, was taking a leave and it was being taught by a pro who had a masters in Carribbean studies. She told us that this was not her expertise, and that all of our tests would be open book. I rarely went other than test day. I didn't learn a thing, but made an A in the class. I wasted all that money. Now that I'll be entering the nursing program, they told us that our names pretty much be in the obituary if we miss any class. If we need to miss we must tell them b4 hand and "call off" even if it's an emergency. We are to never just no show and our grades will suffer by point reduction if we do.

Call me a geek :-) I haven't missed even one class in my prerequisites. It's too important and means a lot to me to be able to attend class. Also, I don't want to get into a habit, you know it starts by ditching one class..... Just my opinion ;-)

I must be a geek as well cause I never skip class. I really enjoy all my classes as well, so I look forward to going.

In the school I graduated from, if you missed too many classes, you were given warnings, write-ups, contracted, and eventually encouraged to drop. I have only seen one case of this the entire time I was in school.

i'm a new grad as of June 13th. I went to class ALL the time my first year cuz I felt that the instructors were "watching you".

My final year however, i rarely went to class. I got the notes off others and went for the tests. Of course I did show up when I wanted to I guess.

I do reccommend going to class the first year.

The only degree I have is my ADN, haha.

I'd like to add to my last post that I did attend when I felt the content was interesting, and most of the time it was, but some of the instructors were incredibly boring, and they read from the notes anyways (peds)

I did attend the classes I wanted to though.

high school...yeah! I skipped all the time. But, I'm paying for it now! I have to re-take 7 classes!

I will not skip any nursing classes. It is way too important to me!

I dont think you are crazy, but I dont understand why you would want to risk your future!

Hated high school, avoided it as much as possible. I think the main reason was that I was bored and not challenged. I love college, only missed one class when my kids were to sick to stay with their grandmother. Plus, I am paying for every class.

The North Carolina community college system is set up so that a student can only miss up to 20% of a class.

I only miss class when I absolutely must. I probably woundn't skip if this policy weren't in place, but I don't know....since it's not really an option here. Either you attend regularly or you fail.
