I passed!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
As some of you may remember I failed the NCLEX my first time around. I originally sat for the exam in June. I was hired as a new RN grad at my local hospital and ended up taking a position as a CNA because I failed the exam. I took the exam again this past wednesday. I have to say that the whole experience was almost as scary as the first time. What made it better this time though, was that I felt more relaxed and I felt that I had studied smarter. I still had alot of questions.... I don't remember where the computer shut off, but I think it was 235 or somewhere around there. A big HUG and THANKS to all of you who offered words of encouragement. I thought of you right before I went into the PearsonVue center. I keep staring at the certificate I received in the mail yesterday.... Registered Nurse....That's what it says I am....can you believe it????!!!! In about 4 hours from now I'm going to strut into the personel office and have my name badge changed from CNA to RN! Its a wonderful feeling. I'm still floating on a cloud of happiness!!! :) :) :) Best wishes to all of you who are taking your exam soon or waiting for results! ~Camkib

Have you ever had CNA's/MA's who dont want to work?
I have worked as a CNA for exactly 4 days now. The work is very difficult, but I am trying to do my very best. I have never worked as a cna before now and I know there is a learning curve so I try not to be too hard on myself. I'm working very hard and earning next to nothing...as I have worked as a bank teller for more than I am earning now where I was able to dress in pretty clothing and count money in a comfortable chair all day while listening to music. But what I am finding most difficult about being a CNA is the way that I am being treated by "some" of the nurses. Most of the nurses ( maybe even all of them) do not know that I have just graduated nursing school and that I was hired for an RN position. They have no idea that I am only working as an aide until I pass the boards. I have noticed eye rolls and snide remarks. I have noticed sarcasm and condscension. I have seen this with the LPN's as well as the RN's...and I have only been working for FOUR DAYS! On the other hand, there are a some nurses who have been a great help to me. I know that right now my job is to "assist" the nurse, but I am also a new (inexperienced) employee. It's OK to check your patient's blood glucose now that you've found the accucheck monitor when I've been looking for at least one of the two glucometers all morning and now I'm being interrupted from doing vital signs (that you wanted 10 minutes ago) to put someone on a bedpan as I'm being paged to help someone else up to the bathroom But the crazy thing is....I know that once I become an RN I will have a list of things to complain about in regards to CNA's. We just can't win. So let's just come together and complain about the doctors. :chuckle ~Camkib

I Failed! :(
I took the NCLEX-RN last monday 6/20 and failed. I had a job lined up to begin today. I live in a state that does not offer the quick results, but I realized I failed when my friend who I went to take the exam with told me that she checked the BON automated license verification line. I checked---and nothing was there. I had all weekend to come to terms with it and today I got the official letter informing me of my failure. I went through all the stages of death...anger, denial....etc :chuckle When I was finished dying I decided to pick myself up and get prepared so that I can take it again. I always thought that I would be embarrassed if I failed, but now that I've actually done it....it's more a feeling of disappointment in myself for not preparing like I know I should have. I don't know what is going to happen with my job. I haven't been able to get in touch with the nurse recruiter since Friday when she told me that if I didn't have a license number by 3pm that I wouldn't be able to start today. I'm not sure I want to work as a CNA because I need to study. I WILL pass this exam the next time I take it! And I will also share what I have learned from this experience to any future nurse who is even remotely curious. ~Camkib

Help!! What are nursing wages in Illinois?
Hello. Try http://www.salary.com this site will give you an idea of what you can expect as far as wages. There's also an area where you can compare the cost of living for where you are now in Texas to where you will be relocating, as well as how much you will need to earn to continue your current lifestyle in your new location. Hope this helps, Camkib

How many books do you have to buy?
23 books???!!!! WOW!!! For my entire program we only had to purchase 14 books total. We had to buy 11 of those for the 1st semester. Before reading your post I used to think that was alot. :chuckle For fall I'll be buying my final book (14th) for the program. It focuses on psych nursing and will cost about $65. No more nursing books for me until I start an RN to BSN program! ~Camkib~

Desktop vs laptop
I have a desktop, but I would really like a laptop for those times when I'm sitting outside of the classroom (early mornings) and the computer lab isn't open. My husband says that I can't have one, that I wouldn't know what to do with a laptop...He has dumbass tatood across the top of his forehead. (he's reading this...so I had to post it! :) rotfl

skipping class, a hard habit to break
The North Carolina community college system is set up so that a student can only miss up to 20% of a class. I only miss class when I absolutely must. I probably woundn't skip if this policy weren't in place, but I don't know....since it's not really an option here. Either you attend regularly or you fail.

The dreaded panty line.......
I recently had my fitting for our school uniform and wondered the same thing! ... (well, that and something else, but I'll keep that to myself or ask someone privately) I'm so happy that you asked!
