Skills Lab kit

My school requires us to buy skill lab kit. I am just wondering if anyone else has to buy this and what is included in it ?

Our nursing kit was included in tuition and we had to select our bp cuff and steth on our own. Our kit came with more than enough stuff and I still have plenty of that stuff left over. Came in handy when you wanted to practice at home instead of going to the lab.

thank you all for replying. i will definitely buy the skill lab kit. this way i will be able to practice at home :)

We have to buy a syllabus now which is stupid, and I mean stupid. It's nothing but a method to generate revenue. They can post that online because each class has an online component for supplements, but they choose not to and it really hacks me off. They want us to buy the forms with which they utilize to evaluate us. I think that is so ridiculous. We pay a small lab fee, but we don't have to buy any equipment for skills lab.

imthatguy i totally agree with you but that’s not all my nursing school is doing. they want us to buy the uniform form their provide website. two nursing uniform costs $ 122 plus i have to pay shipping cost. there is no way i can go to their store because it’s so far way not even the same province. anyway it’s just more ways for the college to gain your money.

Oops:o sorry for the double post. Internet connection problems, I thought it didn’t posted the first time.

I have to buy course packs... basically a breakdown of each lecture.. and then has the pages listed for pre readings, Key Ideas, and sometimes there are articles in there too.

And I had to buy a Lab kit to back in 2nd year.. there was an Injection kit, a wound care kit, and an IV kit. and then last semester I had a blood admin kit, secondary line kit, and ostomy kit :) Usually everything is provided for us. We decided to start buying kits so we could save money towards another IV pump and the new needle-less IV line system that our health authority is now using

How much do they run?

my school also "required" us to buy our uniforms from a store they have a contract with. i went to a discount uniform store and got cherokee workwear. i got 2 tops and 2 bottoms along with some support socks and a stethoscope id tag for $50. no one can tell the difference.

Wow, some of you have crazy expenses!

My school gives each student a lab kit at orientation/during the first week of class which consists of: a drawstring bag, a (cheap) stethoscope, a BP cuff, bandage scissors and a penlight. Anything and everything else is provided in lab when it's needed.

...and having to pay for a syllabus is just absurd!

I bought one pair of black Landau scrubs. The pants, or man pants as I like to call them, have a button waistband, zipper, belt loops, and real front and back pockets. I bought the typical man shirt with breast pocket and lower pockets. I think all together that set me back $40. I didn't think it was a bad price. That's all I bought too since I already had all the other crap from my paramedic days.
