Skills Lab kit

Nursing Students General Students

My school requires us to buy skill lab kit. I am just wondering if anyone else has to buy this and what is included in it ?

Is ATI something to be done on your own time or is part of your course work? It sounds like you are supposed to the tests but do you review the material on your own or is it worked into the program? (Not in the program yet, so hope this doesn't sound stupid. Don't know if my school the other I'm applying to uses them. I know one uses Hesi tests throughout.)

The actual ATI tests are required, but none of it is incorporated into the class. All ATI studying and review is done on our own. There are lots of practice tests and immediate feedback, progress reports, etc, but it is still a HUGE amount of time in addition to normal studying.

Good luck to all!

Oh, the TEAS people.. will we ever get away from them?:uhoh3:

Major, by any chance are you going to Ivy tech? Because I noticed in the nursing pack there are $353 in ATI testing fees. I just wondering if that the same thing?

Anyways, schools will always try to nickle and dime you anyway they can. For an example, IUPUI charges its students $200 just for parking. I used to go there awhile ago. At Ivy they like to do this thing where they take standard text books, have them personalized to the school so then you can't buy them anywhere else.

And yes I did have to pay for a syllabus.

Okay, the pre-nursing student is sneaking out now before he get plumbed by stethoscopes. :)

I used to go to Ivy Tech but before starting the program, I transferred to KY. As mentioned before, my ATI kit was over $500 which is expensive. Like some of you, I have also had to pay for the syllabus and the packaged books at Ivy Tech are quite ridiculous. They like to brag about posting ISBN numbers, but as stated, they are in a package specifically for Ivy Tech which is to no advantage. My son is experiencing this dilemma as we speak.

We were given ours at the start of the semester. It had a whole bunch of stuff like an injection pad, practice PPE, needle-less syringes, cath kit, wound care kit, etc... We also had to get iPod touches with Skyscape software but luckily both were included in our tuition. The fundamentals kit was used though out the first semester and the iPod is worth it's weight in gold. Love it.

Our stethoscope had to be purchased on our own and could be any kind we wanted. Uniforms had to be purchased from the school because of the embroidery on them.
