I did the same thing! I consider myself a responsible person. I do not drink, party or do anything crazy, but like you, I have worked too hard to get my spot that jeopardizing my spot for something very preventable is insane. I started Nursing school 3 days ago and have been facebook free and don't even miss it like I thought I would. Just think of how much extra time I will have to study since I won't be on facebook!

I used to go to Ivy Tech but before starting the program, I transferred to KY. As mentioned before, my ATI kit was over $500 which is expensive. Like some of you, I have also had to pay for the syllabus and the packaged books at Ivy Tech are quite ridiculous. They like to brag about posting ISBN numbers, but as stated, they are in a package specifically for Ivy Tech which is to no advantage. My son is experiencing this dilemma as we speak.

The actual ATI tests are required, but none of it is incorporated into the class. All ATI studying and review is done on our own. There are lots of practice tests and immediate feedback, progress reports, etc, but it is still a HUGE amount of time in addition to normal studying. Good luck to all!

What is an ATI kit? An ATI kit is primarily a bunch of books and DVD's from the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) that we have to review and then take a test over. This is supposed to ensure a higher passing rate for the NCLEX because the ATI is continually monitoring your progress every time a test is taken. If the ATI tests can not be passed, then chances of passing the NCLEX are not good. www.atitesting.com

We were not allowed to buy 'used' on the skills bag or the ATI kit. I actually had an ATI kit given to me and was still told that this would not be acceptable to use!

I attend a community college for the ADN program and have had to pay $237.85 for a skills bag that has Foley catheters, IV's, saline, gauze, etc. in it. I paid $535 for an ATI Test Kit, $23 for each pair of white pants, $20 for red scrub tops with the school name embroidered on them, and $30 for a white lab coat with a nursing student patch on it. All of this had to be purchased from the bookstore so shopping around was not an option. I then spent lots of money on shoes, a stethoscope, B/P cuff, etc. Tuition this semester was $1190 plus an additional $600 for books, and that was getting most of them off of ebay! Although it is a huge amount of money, I cannot really complain because it will all be worth it in the end!!!

My name is is for my son. His name is Major and he is my only child, so therefore my name is Major1. This is a password I use quite often also, so it was chosen because of the ease of remembrance. I start first semester of RN school in 2 weeks so I need to save my brain cells for remembering everything else instead of a complicated user name!

I took the opportunity to join PTK at the community college while trying to get into the nursing program, primarily because it would look good on the resume. I graduated with an Associates in Science degree last week and start nursing school in January. By being in PTK, I was chosen, out of almost 500 graduates to be the student speaker at the graduation, representing not only PTK, but the college, as well. I also have had the chance to be involved in various communtiy service projects, and am looking forward to potential scholarships when I continue on for my BSN! And like a previous poster said, being in PTK does wonders to make a parent proud!!!

Cuezee2 I just read your post. Could you please tell me what ADPIE is? I haven't started nursing school yet, but I am now curious as to what this means. Thanks

I know it's gonna be hard once were in - but this is pure torture - so close, yet so far. At least once we're in, all we need to do is stay in! That's what scares me already, and day one does not start until January 10th!

Soon2bRN122- All I can do is agree with the other posters. Find something to occupy your time. If not, the wait will consume you. My application deadline was July 1. I just found out Monday, that thankfully, I did get accepted. It was my third time trying. Now I am relieved that I know that I am in, but already I am starting to stress with the 'what if's', and the "I hope's". I want to go ahead and get started (and finished) so badly. Chris99mu- I think we all need to remember who is our Pilot, like you said. That was very good information to go by. Many times what we want is not best. Good luck as you continue your journey, whatever that may be!

Hello everyone! Today, after the deadline for spring admission was July 1, 2010, I just got my acceptance letter! I start the RN program at Owensboro Community College in January! I am so excited, scared, nervous, etc! Gosh, it feels great!!!!!:yeah::yeah:

I have a friend who is a CRNA and she said it was required of her to work for at least a year in ICU. I don't know if this matters but she went to school in Kansas.
