SJSU FALL 2021 BSN

Published

Hey Guy! I am creating this for those applying to SJSU Fall 2021 nursing program. I wanted to see what the applicant pool looks like! Here's my stats so far:

Big 5 GPA: 4.0

TEAS: 80%

Impaction score: 6.66

I don't feel so confident due to how competitive it's been :/

If we don't get in to the program but we get into sjsu for our alternative major, we can apply for Spring nursing? I never knew that! that's good information. thank you! ?

for those who have scored above 90 on TEAS... what tools helped you the most, and any tips ? ❤️

I made over 1,000 flashcards. Because I suck at remembering ***. Though, truth is, if you get to the test and cant remember the formulas for geometry... thats easy points lost. Essentially the whole test is like that. It's an easy test but you have to know the basic stuff. The first time I took it, I did horribly with english. Mostly that was because I couldnt remember proper comma placements and other things of that nature.

make sure you study the basics. I bought the 250$ prep thing from ATI and that brought my score up from low 70s to my second attempt at 89%. I figured 250$ was a small price to pay considering the weight of the situation.

For accepting the fall admission to undeclared, it may be a smart move considering Spring is easier with less applicants but just make sure you’re okay with spending that tuition and have the TEAS score/grades to qualify. Might be a waste if you don't..

good luck!!

Hello everyone!

I'm currently a nursing student at SJSU. I know the application process and the events leading up to the decision can be stressful, so I'm here to answer some questions to help you guys out a little bit. Good luck with the start of your journey!

Hey! thank you so much for offering to help! Do you know what the average point cut off is? my impaction score is 6.97, 3.95 BIG 8 GPA and 90.7% TEAS score.

I feel like there's going to be sooo many applications for this fall im super nervous!

To be honest I don't think you should worry at all. Check out some of the other fall threads here or on reddit. Fall is obviously harder and they had alot of applications, though, I've talked to people whove got in with a lower impaction score. Other people on here have also mentioned friends that got in 3.9 89/90%

I think you'll make the cutoff ?

I got a 92 on my TEAS with around a 3.6 GPA and was admitted for Spring. A higher GPA would be ideal for fall admission due to its more competitive nature. But don't lose hope! SJSU was my do or die school and it took me two applications to get accepted (also had to retake the TEAS again since my first score was low 80's). If you don't get accepted for fall  2021 and you know you have decent stats you can choose to still attend the university to be eligible for Spring 2022 which is a much smaller application pool.

Would you mind letting us know what year you were admitted to.

Fall 2019 impaction cuttoff was 6.65 per the slides from that year. The last two years has stepped up a notch in terms of both applicants applied and the fact that they changed to the big 8. I think with the extra 11 units, the GPAs probably rose with that.

if I applied with the big 5. With 4 As and a B in micro, with 89.3 on the TEAS. My impaction score for 2019 would be

3.75 + 2.97 = 6.72

With the big 8

3.84 + 2.97 = 6.81

so, I think the average bump (could possibly be) similar. If it was 6.65 fall 2019, id definitely gamble that it will be north of 6.72 with the extra applicants and hopefully it'll not be more than 6.81 ??

Does anyone have an idea, though, of what it means for Summer drops to lower the cutoff?

I believe that just means that some people who were expected decided not to enroll before the fall, so those with lower scores got in and therefor lowered the cutoff

Hi friends!

I was wondering for those of you who submitted a substitution form for an AP course, did you attach your CollegeBoard score report to it, or did you also send your scores to SJSU from CB? I have no idea if I'm supposed to send scores or not and I can't find anything that mentions it.

In regards to those of us who took the TEAS prior to Dec. 17, I highly recommend that you email the nursing department. I took it in November as a proctored exam, and after reading this forum I was super freaked out! However, after I emailed the nursing department they said if I want they can send my information "over to the undergraduate coordinator who is considering applicants in a similar situation on a case by case basis." I said yes, and then I was informed that despite when I took it I was still eligible to apply! I'm not sure if it is because I mentioned that I live with those who are high risk, or because the rest of my statistics (GPA, TEAS score) are high-ish, but it worked!

Don't lose hope! Email them!

OK, I am super confused now... on the website, it says that effective Dec. 17th, proctored online exams are acceptable for those applying for Fall 2021 only (which would be us). I took it in October, and when I saw that message assumed since I’m applying for fall 2021 and usually phrased like that means that anyone taking it in that general time frame is fine. When you emailed, did they say anything specific about this? Also, if you don’t mind, who did you contact? Sorry about the questions, LOL, I’m concerned now since the deadline is coming up!

I just emailed [email protected]! I emailed them asking if it's true that if you had taken the TEAS online after 12/17 your score is valid, but if you had taken it before then, then it's not. They responded by saying that this is true and that if you took your exam prior to 12/17 then they can send my information to the undergraduate coordinator to review my case. I'm not sure how they decide whose scores count and whose doesn't, maybe it has to do with your stats, the date you took it, or the reason why you didn't take it in person, who knows. I really think you should email them to be sure! Don't apologize! ☺️

Thanks for the quick response! I just emailed, hope I hear back before the weekend. I was originally going to take it on campus in person in August, but it was cancelled due to smoke, AND I had to evacuate my home the day before from the CZU fire. I ended up taking it online through ATI in October (proctored!). Crossing my fingers!

Oh no, I hope you're doing better now! I honestly think it's unfair of them to expect us to have taken it in person when 2020 was a complete mess, especially for CA, but at least they're reviewing our cases! They always respond within 24 hours so I'm sure you'll hear back soon. ☺️

Hello everyone,

I currently have a problem with NursingCas. I submitted my nursingcas application yesterday without submitting the functional competencies form. I cannot add the form to the Required Document so can I add the form to the Optional Document? and How can I know if SJSU received the form update or not?

I'm so mad that I forgot the functional competencies form. I'm crying ?
