SJSU FALL 2021 BSN

Published

Hey Guy! I am creating this for those applying to SJSU Fall 2021 nursing program. I wanted to see what the applicant pool looks like! Here's my stats so far:

Big 5 GPA: 4.0

TEAS: 80%

Impaction score: 6.66

I don't feel so confident due to how competitive it's been :/

Just so everyone knows, at the advising session. They confirmed that the way that impaction score is calculated is not GPA + (TEAS/30). They actually apparently have no idea how the score is calculated.

Hmm, wait a minute. She said they use TEAS / 30 because it brings the number to a similar value as the GPA and that it is GPA + /30 TEAS. Thats how its calculated and thats what she said. The whole 2/3rds 1/3rds confusion is misplaced.

the calculation is literally GPA for the 8 classes and TEAS/30. That number is the number that they use for impaction and admission. No ambiguity.

She said with the statistician they now don't use that model. And instead of in the range of 5-7. They use a different method that brings scores into the 90s.

OK, I guess Im confused then because if they use the 8 pre requisites and TEAS/30. My impaction score is 6.81. Where is this whole number value coming from? did you understand that better

Yea it sounds super confusing. But from what I understood. It seems like they are using a different system from GPA + (TEAS/30). And with the old system, you would get a score ranging from 6-7. But now they are using a "new model" which gets you a score ranging in the 90s. So basically we have no clue how they are calculating impaction besides that the GPA is 2/3 of the score while the TEAS is 1/3 of the score.

Yeah, exactly. I suppose the actual number is sort of irrelevant anyway. The only two inputs that are criteria are GPA and TEAS. What I got from that meeting is that this year is looking like nearly all straight As and 90%+ TEAS.

which is pure stress.

Never in my life have I thought getting 1 B would hold me back ?

I'm in the exact same boat. I thought one B in Philosophy of all classes wouldn't matter - especially because it was only the big FIVE at the time that counted for SJSU!! So stressful. And a huge bummer...

Well, I don't want to give anyone false hope, but my friend got into the Fall 2019 program with maybe 1 B and a TEAS score around 88 or 89-- and that was with a similar # of people applying. I've looked through past cohorts here, too, and there are definitely people who got in with a B somewhere in there.

Other Bay Area schools are not only grade/score based but also include health care experience and language skills such as CSU East Bay and SFSU and some private institutions as well.

Hey, when you submit your documents like your driver's license or birth certificate. Do you just take a picture of it and submit. Or are you guys getting like a xerox copy from a copier machine.

I used the Adobe scanner app to scan my ID and passport into my phone as a PDF and submitted that.

Has anyone gotten a Chemistry class substituted? I have been waiting for around a month now to get my substitution form signed and I don't think it will in time, so I was wondering if anyone was successful in substituting the Chemistry requirement with a general chem class.

They said to just submit the form on your application without a signature if you don’t get it received back on time

@Lone_purpleThis is literally a breath of fresh air. Were you the one that messaged me in the group advising zoom?

It's hard to keep motivated when the odds are stacked but I'm hoping you all get into the program and we can make it through this *** together haha.
