When asked by a nurse manager who never ever works on the floor if I wanted to come in on my day off or stay over for another shift: " NO, I would rather have a pap smear done with a rake". Does that convey my answer to you?

I had a pt call the other day and order a coffee with 3 sugars. If I'm going to be a waitress, do I get to ask for a tip?
We can see a Hilton from our hospital, maybe I should start offering to take them over there.

You know, I'm sure if they would do it for themselves they could. But they're in an unsual position with no way of getting some of the things they would find comforting at home. This isn't communist Russia (I speak from experience) where a hospital means that we're here to serve your most basic survival needs (not even that usually) and then kick you out. If you find it beneath you, you have techs who can assist. But I wouldn't roll my eyes at a nice patient who just wants a cup of coffee to help him get thorugh the day (and maybe be less cranky).

Thank you. I get coffee/snacks/whatever all the time. It's when people start to take advantage of it and use the call light like a drive through menu that I get annoyed.
